metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 is now a good time to ask why the world series mvp can be a pitcher, but for some reason, pitchers can't be the season mvp?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 The short answer, and one I disagree with, is because pitchers "have their own award."
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 so do hitters. and fielders.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Justin Verlander, Dennis Eckersley, Roger Clemens, Rollie Fingers, Bob Gibson, and some others would like to argue with that assertion.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Speaking of fielders, Yadier Molina has won his third Platinum Glove award in four years. The PG goes to the one top defender. It's been around since 2011, and I think its time has more than come, but it's voted on by fans, so judge that as you will.Year League Player Team Position2011 American Adrin Beltr Texas Rangers 3B2011 National Yadier Molina St. Louis Cardinals C2012 American Adrin Beltr (2) Texas Rangers 3B2012 National Yadier Molina (2) St. Louis Cardinals C2013 American Manny Machado Baltimore Orioles 3B2013 National Andrelton Simmons Atlanta Braves SS2014 American Alex Gordon Kansas City Royals LF2014 National Yadier Molina (3) St. Louis Cardinals CKnow what? Don't judge that as you will. Listen to me. Boo that result. Boo it to the moon and back. That's Lagares' hardware Molina's collecting.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Phil Rogers, who put deGrom 2d, voted Terry as 3d for Manager of the Year. Was he casting this vote from the bottom? Edited November 11, 2014 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 He figures that deGrom only pitched as well as he did because he was being managed by Terry.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Clayton Kershaw, to the surprise of no one, is the unanimous NL CY. Johnny Cueto & Adam Wainwright finished 2nd & 3rdUnknown to most at the beginning of the year, Cleveland's Corey Kluber is the AL winner over Felix Hernandez (17 1st place votes to 13) with Chicago's Chris Sale finishing 3rd
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Kershaw wins MVP, first NL pitcher to do so since the year before Seaver should have in 1969. Duda nabs one eighth-place vote. Stanton 2nd, Cutch 3rd.Trout in the DH league, unaninimous.

I'm usually into it whether a Mets involved or not. I guess because most were shoe-ins.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 13, 2014 Author Posted November 13, 2014 Curious if Stanton could have pulled it out hadn't he gotten his face mashed in.I'm really concerned he'll never be the same.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 i'm happily surprised that the voters got the nl mvp right. all too often i hear that t pitcher can't be the mvp, because he has his own award. i'm glad enough people disagreed.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 2nd time in four seasons for a pitcher as MVP (Verlander - 2011)The big gap had been for an NL pitcher to pull of the double, you need to go back to Bob Gibson '68 for that one.The one argument I found specifically stupid was the one where relief pitchers should be considered for MVPs but not starters.Kind of funny that Trout, after two runner-up years, wins unanimously in what was arguably the worst of his three full seasons.
