Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Mets have announced a free opening day watch party at CitiField.Watch TV. Get drunk. Buy mercy. Freeze your ass off. BASEBALL!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Denard Span had surgery on "a right core muscle" this past weekend, almost certainly a no-go for ODMy guess is that this means Michael Taylor makes the team (he may have anyway) and that either he or Nate McLoud gets the start in CF.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks for the update. McLouth had a really tough season with Washington last year, but Taylor has never done anything as a big leaguer. Reports have Taylor scheduled to get the bulk of the reps, but I'm going to pencil NMcL in there for now.[fimg=250]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7b/New_York_Mets.svg/1024px-New_York_Mets.svg.png[/fimg][fimg=250]http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg180/bohob_4_life/WashingtonNationals_PML1_2011-9999.png?t=1290008638[/fimg]Mets=#FF0000]NatsLagares, cfGranderson, rfWright, 3bDuda, 1bCuddyer, lfMurphy, 2bdArnaud, cFlores, ssColon, sp=#FF0000]Escobar, 2bRendon, 3bWerth, rfHarper, lfZimmerman, 1bDesmond, ssRamos, c=#FF0000]McLouth, cfStrasburg, sp
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 - Scherzer has been tabbed as the Nats OD starter- but now lingering knee problems leave Rendon's participation in doubt.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 That's spectacular. I hope Colon takes him down.Michael Taylor, according to reports, will be the Nats center fielder, with Werth and Harper swapping positions.[fimg=250]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7b/New_York_Mets.svg/1024px-New_York_Mets.svg.png[/fimg][fimg=250]http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg180/bohob_4_life/WashingtonNationals_PML1_2011-9999.png?t=1290008638[/fimg]Mets=#FF0000]NatsLagares, cfGranderson, rfWright, 3bDuda, 1bCuddyer, lfMurphy, 2bdArnaud, cFlores, ssColon, spEscobar, 2bRendon, 3bWerth, =#FF0000]lfHarper,=#FF0000]rfZimmerman, 1bDesmond, ssRamos, c=#FF0000]Taylor, cf=#FF0000]Scherzer, sp
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Now with Rendon a certainty to miss OD and probably the whole series ("he's off to see Dr. James Andrews" are never good things to hear if you're looking toward a quick rebound) the Nats are talking about SS-turned-2B Yunel Escobar shifting to 3rd base with I guess Danny Espinosa manning 2B.We're not going to see Jayson Werth next week either.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 I'm not giving up on Murphy until/unless events of today warrant it, but the nationals seem pretty set to be without Rendon and virtually Werthless.Flores seems to have jumped d'Arnaud in the batting order. He's earned it, but I get the notion that d'Arnaud is sensitive and carries small lights as a weight..[fimg=250]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7b/New_York_Mets.svg/1024px-New_York_Mets.svg.png[/fimg][fimg=250]http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg180/bohob_4_life/WashingtonNationals_PML1_2011-9999.png?t=1290008638[/fimg]Mets=#FF0000]NatsLagares, cfGranderson, rfWright, 3bDuda, 1bCuddyer, lfMurphy, 2b=#FF0000]Flores, ss=#FF0000]dArnaud, cColon, sp=#FF0000]Taylor, cf=#FF0000]Escobar, 3b=#FF0000]Harper, rf=#FF0000]Zimmerman, 1b=#FF0000]Ramos, cDesmond, ss=#FF0000]Moore, lf=#FF0000]Espinosa, 2b=#FF0000]Scherzer, spThat's certainly not the lineup they wanted, but it's a deep and capable one nonetheless. That's three starters sidelined on opening day, plus setup reliever Casey Janssen out with rotator cuff tendinitis.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Yeah, it's not a bad start time, just makes the wait longer is all.All teams are starting on Monday (except for Cubs/Cards Sunday night) so no fans have that really awful wait where you start full day or day and a half after everyone else.Wonder if they ever considered going to an all Sunday start? It would fit perfectly with all day-time starts that you'd want and would put it on a no-school/no-work day. Yeah tomorrow's Easter but it wouldn't be Easter Sunday every year and it's not like they don't play on that day anyway. And, although I wouldn't advocate moving schedules just to go around other sporting events, a Sunday kickoff would make it so OD falls between the semis and finals of the college hoopathon and assures that your 1st full Sunday sked doesn't clash with 'The Masters' like it often does now.The downside, I guess, is that having OD on a weekday gives each team a (probable) sell-out on a Monday or Tuesday in April, a day where you wouldn't ordinarily get one.Manfred seems willing to at least consider tinkering with these kinds of traditions if they no longer serve whatever purpose they originally had, maybe the season starting day is one of those things on his to-be-condered list.

Means I can listen to the game during my drive home from work.Likewise, Looking forward to getting a mix of radio and TV on the first game. It being Easter and 'transfer beer to secondary' weekend should make it go faster. And I have a daughter/doctor thing to deal with on Tuesday to keep me busy through the worst baseball day of the year.I'm more impatient for the wait until the _next_ Monday, when I get back to Citi for the first time in like 8 months. Word is Murphy is going to meet the team in Washington. This seems..I dunno. I feel like if they were confident he was ready to go they'd have brought him to Texas and at least gave him DH swings. Maybe he's with the team OD, then goes back to Extended Spring and meets the team in NY.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 They don't want to play Murphy in Texas because then if they do need to DL him they couldn't back-date it. As things stand now he's been playing only in minor league (read: non tickets sold) games so the team can essentially custom design the length of his DL stint if they so choose.

Or simply to be with the team Opening Day and then go back to extended Spring.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 Doesn't seem silly to me. If he can get reps in minor league games without necessarily activating him, but not in major league ones, that's a healthy and strategic way to proceed.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I believe I saw that Murphy would bat 5th on opening day.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Check this shit out in the meantime.Bartolo Colon, Opening Day, and the Truth... Colon is, from moment to moment, anachronistic, washed-up, and enlightened. Every day he pitches, he gives off the appearance of having overslept and underprepared; it is as if he has shown up to a triathlon in a Hawaiian shirt and Skechers. He seems to get by on pure guile, or on something a little more profound. No longer able to dominate the game as he could on occasion during his younger years, he has decided instead to embody it, in all of its inherent difficulty. If he cannot make it as hard on hitters as he once did, he can at least avoid ever making it easy. ...
