They are expected again to throw away a great tradition and instead wear MLB sanctioned hats. It continues to be one of my biggest complaints about management and ownership.

I don't know that there is anything more to say, except to reiterate my disappointment.

Give them time.
They're still remembering a baseball team in Brooklyn.

Fuck Camo Mondays!

But the Mets' response in 2001 was unique and special and should be honored each year. I'm in total agreement with CF.

I actually think the opposite, that it was unique, special, and spontaneous and making it a yearly 'thing' diminishes the original.

That's what commemoration is about. Yearly things.

I don't agree with using the on the field game to promote causes and what not. You can do all that without changing what the guys are wearing. There are a billion different ways to do it, and they do, without that. That's all. It doesn't make me more aware, more caring. Neither does wearing pink stuff. Or camo hats.

Just my opinion, and I'm not alone. we don't need to debate it every year. But let's not act like they HAVE to wear the caps because it's the only right way to do things and everything else is an embarrassing fiasco. It misses the forest for the trees.

Comment on Facebook:

Jay Kim: You know, the best way to Never Forget would be to tell Bud Selig where he can put his MLB sanctioned hats and let the team wear first responder hats during the game.

Just caught this thread now. Just wrote about this topic now, too. A day late and a zillion dollars short, but maybe a marker for next year's necessary nudging.

Strange that goofy and poorly designed patriotic hats didn't rule the day this time. Just a shmall flag patch on the side. So there was no solidarity with a league-wide effort the Mets needed to get with this year. They just... didn't do it.

Yup.

Greg, killer stuff!

How does one think to tie in "Never Forget" with d'Arnaud's baserunning blunder? Fantastic.

What's clear is that if we want this to return, it has to be a year-round campaign --- with an association, a Facebook page, dancing girls, Victorian illustration memes, and a secret handshake and whatnot.

Agreed.

It is foolish for me to think I can wake up on the morning of September 11 and get anything done.

And it wouldn't hurt to get some actual first responders to join this organization.

I'm down with making this one of the CPF Goals for 2015.

Matt Harvey talking to the media today with royal blue cap, white interlocking NY with orange trim on the NY. Looks clean, the cap that is.
