Johnny Franco is in the booth with Howie tonight. To his credit he advised against using a returning-from-the-disabled-list guy in a tight game before Arenado took Black deep.

It's hard to discern if this is a factor that Terry doesn't consider or considers but dismisses. I'm pretty certain I double switch when I bring in Buddy and try to get more than a third of an inning out of him.

2. That was an outfielder brought in for defense that Grandy's drive got past.

3. Is d'Arnaud the dude or what?

4. Thinking long and hard here in my home about how much I sit Duda vs. lefties in the fewcha.

5. Niese seemed in command like I haven't seen him in a while. Really strong on the outside part of the plate against righties.

6. Surprised to see Curtis take third base there. Wondering if he makes that call on his own or he picked up Teufel.

7. For a team that plays in a cavernous ballpark, them's was some shitty outfield arms on display for Colorado.

8. Buddy Carlyle (I still want to spell it "Carlisle") is almost certainly going to be left alone rather than re-signed by the Mets, at least until after the Rule V draft. But what more could you ask out of him and Eveland? Give whoever scouted those two guys raises and promotions. We have all this minor league pitching talent waiting for a chance and these two baseball Bedoins have held them all off.

9. Nieuwenhuis and den Dekker need to decide on who gets to wear the beard. They have too much in common right now to be working with the same look.

10. We saw Colorado and Anaheim early in the season. The former looked like a well-oiled machine and the latter like stinking mess. Five months later and the former is limping home and the latter as good as anybody.

d'Arnaud as a hitter is starting to remind me a bit of Washington's Anthony Rendon -- and that's a really good thing.
He's not as good as Rendon at the moment (and is older and quite possibly never will be as good) but the two are similar sized, use the field virtually line to line, and both have better power than they look like they ought to.

Or maybe it's just the dark hair and I don't know what I'm talking about. Either conclusion is equally possible.

TC's post-game interview sounded like Mister Magoo to me. Or Uncle Leo: "I'm an old man, I got confused, can somebody take me home?..."
