seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 An injury has to be really horrific for them to suspend a game.

A local team representative said a Mets player slid into second base, and his head collided with the knee of the Nationals' shortstop, who was covering the bag.The injured player, identified by ESPN as Manuel Hilario, began convulsing after the collision. Hilario is a 22-year-old first baseman from the Dominican Republic.Paramedics arrived on scene and called in a medical helicopter, which landed on the field. The player was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. His condition was not immediately released. The game was suspended and is scheduled to continue Saturday at 10 a.m.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Games in the GCL usually involve a minimum of paying fans--the friends and family plan is more like it--so suspending a game in that league would probably be done quicker there than it would in higher levels. But, even having said that, this situation sounds pretty scary.

He took a knee to the head and immediately began to experience seizures and remained unresponsive. After treatment on the field, he was airlifted to an area hospital via helicopter. At the hospital he was administered a CT scan, which appears to be normal. He is talkative, in good spirits and could be discharged tomorrow."Well, that's good news.
