Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 More Pilots/Mets connections than I expected!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Topps could not be bothered to take a new, non-Dodger picture of Tommy Davis for several years. But sweet locale for 1963 and its 1964 rerun (with the Polo Grounds in all its Leaders glory the latter year)! In between? Repetition became him.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 You left out his '70, (which might be in a Mets uniform).More Dodger Davis after Davis's Dodger days:1983 Renata Galasso Seattle Pilots (one-time Mets shown, Lockwood MIA)[fimg=283]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/80771/80771-14Fr.jpg[/fimg][fimg=283]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/80771/80771-5722769Fr.jpg[/fimg][fimg=283]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/80771/80771-5722768Fr.jpg[/fimg][fimg=283]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/80771/80771-27Fr.jpg[/fimg][fimg=283]http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/80771/80771-33Fr.jpg[/fimg]Davis at Shea[fimg=244]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-73LXknwgJqA/UU25mRBnkoI/AAAAAAAADvU/ItoG25uSoDI/s1600/1964+Topps+All+Star+Tommy+Davis.jpg[/fimg]Davis the Pilot, imagined[fimg=322]http://www.richieunterberger.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/sb_1970_topps_davis.jpg[/fimg]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 He sure knew how to rock the bat-handle-in-the-crotch pose.Right hand on the barrel. Left elbow on the knee. Was it that standardized for everybody or just for him?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Imagining Topps photog traveling day and night to this camp or that, only to be told when he asks for "Davis" -- the last man on his git-list -- "You mean Tommy? Oh, you just missed him. He was traded to..." And inevitably if the scene took place in Florida, Tommy was training in Arizona -- and vice-versa."Ah screw it," the photographer thought. "I'll tell them he was sick that day and they should use that picture from Vero Beach again."
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Oh, and [u:3h7rl07f]Goossen[/u:3h7rl07f] is spelled wrong on the card above.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 But if you covered him with garbage, Ken Sanders would still have style.
