Man, Lance Lynn. I just have inexplicable antipathy for so many of these Cardinals.

Meanwhile, God has intervened. And will not let Bartolo Colon bat eighth.

Matt dD tweets a shot of his hose before the game.

Goodness, we are going to win by a huge margin today.

leadoff homerun. poo.

aww well, first inning runs usually means you lose right? that's what I've been trained to expect.

With those hose of MDD's, you really should expect the best.

A walk for Grandy and a hit for Tea. And that's all the scratch we've got through three.

Matt den Dekker's socks, we call on your powers NOW!!!!

Here's a shocker, Muffy thrown out on the basepaths again.

At least when Wright tries to do too much, he's a zero. When Muffy tries to overdo it, he subtracts.

Murphy is third in Fangraphs BsR among ML second baseman. He occasionally gets over-aggressive, but that's like saying a guy occasionally gets thrown out stealing so he should never steal. It's a net-positive.

Yes, well, I wasn't speaking of in the net. I was speaking about specific instances of trying to do too much to rescue a slumping team..

Murphy is certainly an asset and a half, in the net.

I think he's easy to identify specific instances where it seems like that but hard to prove.

Perhaps it's simply the other way. Murphy's playing the same way and the games where the Mets don't win are the ones where he doesn't make it. Where someone misses a sign, where a diving catch doesn't catch the ball. Weaker offenses are going to tend to play closer games where one bad break could be the difference?

Doesn't help that we're about 2-for-8 on hard-hit balls so far today.
Nor does the fact that we've turned two of the four base-runners they have managed to get back into outs.

Certainly not the moral victory I'm looking for, but Bartolo is probably your best bet if you want a fast game.

Speeds things up during his at-bats, too.

Here we go again.

Three outs at 2B in half-a-game
It's not helping matters when we only require the opposing staff to only retire 20-something hitters per game instead of the full 27

This is the kinda dumb shit that should get Terry fired.

Having less talent than the other team is one thing but no excuse for the mental errors.

Don't really think any of today's stuff were mental errors (yesterday was another story).
Murph took a decent chance but got thrown out on a nice play/throw by Jay in CF. Granderson's was just a straight steal attempt (would have helped had CYoung not swung through another pitch) and Wright was safe but then bounced off the base with his slide.
