Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Buddy Carlyle, who I think had a long-running gig at the Stork Club back in the day, is due to join the Mets to provide relief to a bullpen taxed by extra innings and a short workday by starting pitcher Rafael Montero yesterday. Did you expect Jose Valverde to return?A corresponding move hasn't been reported, but speculamation has Montero going down and possibly Daistarterke being relaunched.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Say what you will about Carlyle-- he's an iffy pitcher; he's a terrible pitcher,;he's an old, iffy, terrible pitcher-- but the man knows how to work blue (ex-Bravo, ex-Dodger, and, most recently, ex-MFY). The man's obviously some sort of talent, though-- it takes some special gift to make me half-wish for Valverde back.Tip your waitstaff! Please stick around later for the ethnic comedy of Hector Ambriz, and the wild ventriloquist stylings of Mr. Tony Sipp!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Hey, he's working to a 1.27 ERA, a sub-1.00 WHiP, and better than a 5/1 K/BB ratio in Las Vegas.I say: ride that horse til it drops. With Gee's return date seemingly fuzzier by the day, Montero down and Matsuzaka back to starting makes the most sense for now, though I like Dice in that long relief role.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Montero didn't look quite ready after all.I mean, anyone can beat the MFYs.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 It's official. Montero crumbles to the sea.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Buddy Carlyle's first MLB game was won on a pinch sac fly off the bat of Dave Magadan, the star of the Mets' third division clincher. So he's been around.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 It'll be his fourth return to the bigs after an interruption of a year or more.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Dear G-d he has been around! Some MFY and Braves stench attached to him....
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 When a pitcher wears that number does he automatically start giving up home runs?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Buddy Ebsen and Buddy Hackett were unavailable?Later
