I think its likely that the Mets are taking orders from Clear Channel as to what they can or cannot do on the radio anymore. I'm pretty sure Terry still does a weekly thing with Fatso.

he doesn't according to that post.

Many of the Mets already had a contentious relationship with "The Pope" so hunger to go out of their way to appear on that show.

Interesting how no one's seemingly noticed or missed Collins' weekly spot or really any of this until now. Seems like sports radio needs the Mets more than the Mets need opinionated talking heads.

Sitting with Francessa is an assault on human dignity and I imagine that it is as true to say Mets figures have historically subjected themselves to it out of an obligation to their then-broadcast partner as it is to say that Mets figures now withhold themselves out of obligations to their current broadcast partner. That's the way Francessa's game is played and he's profited heavily from it.

I haven't yet had enough of the Mets. I have LONG SINCE had enough of WFAN.

Matt Cerrone from the above link:
... the way I understand it, this is as much the Yankees doing as it is the Mets. Ive been told by radio insiders that, as part of their agreement with WFAN, the Yankees must get more players and promotions on air than their cross-town rival, which is understandable. However, because of the draft, postseason hockey and hoops, etc., the Yankees havent had many opportunities to be on air, which means even less available air time for the Mets.

That's probably all true but it's also a bit ironic in that FAN used to have all kinds of trouble booking Yanqui players, not because the Mets put pressure on the station not to but because the yanx simply couldn't be bothered. On slow days during the summer M&MD (or one or the other) would often go fishing for NYY interviews just to kill 10 minutes only to be told that; "oh no, [fill in player's name] is too busy getting ready for the game". The player, of course, who they often wanted was Jeter who somehow could never seem to find the time even on a Tuesday afternoon before some mid-August game against the Royals while the Yanx were 14 games ahead in their division. Aside from Torre and now Girardi who are of course paid for their appearances, I remember very few NYY players who 'stooped' to go on what was for a long time the only sports radio station in town. Mussina, IIRC, was one of the few.

IOW - they didn't need FAN when they were on top of the baseball world but now they're strong-arming the station to make sure they're first in line. Hmmm, wonder what's changed?

Was just listening at lunch. Fatcessa said the Mets are mad at the FAN because their agreement with the MFYs prevents the Mets from doing promos like ticket giveaways on the station, and so withholding guests is their way of fighting back.

He also added that [u:1zz7e78w]SNY[/u:1zz7e78w] has removed their previous ban -- official or otherwise -- on the likes of G, K, or R appearing on FAN if so invited.

Sure, because doing the promos on Z100 and Q104.3 or whatever the sister stations are isn't enough.

yawn.
