Later in his career when Vida Blue pitched for the Giants, I was lucky enough to have seats at Shea in the Giants owners' box right next to their dugout (got a broken bat from Dave Bergman, but I digress). I just thought it was the coolest thing that he wore "Vida" on the back of his jersey instead of the traditional last name.

The Raider part wipes out Lynn Swann, who roomed with Fred Lynn -- plus Swann wasn't rookie of the year. Unless you mean MVP (Swann MVP of Super Bowl X; Lynn MVP of AL 1975 months earlier).
