Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 So sez Heyman. No word on return.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 SNY said that Pittsburgh will send us pitching prospect Zack Thornton and a PTBNL.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Wow, just saw it now on SNY,,,,,
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Those K/9 numbers is tasty. Unlike most guys who start out as minor-league relievers, he seems to have gotten better as he's progressed through the system (peep the dropping walk rate).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Was Thorton the guy the Mets were asking for but Pitt was balking on for a theoretical Ike trade over the winter? We may have to check the archives on this one.http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=thornt001zac

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 LWFS prospect-boner status: RAGING
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I'm guessing once someone says it everyone is sayingthey're hearing it. The Twitterverse!
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 It sure as hell isn't Polanco or Taillon, and probably isn't Taillons-in-waiting Kingham or Glasnow.Best we could somewhat-reasonably hope for? Something like this or this, but more likely, it's one of a few of their intriguing SS/low-A outfield prospects. They've got a deep pond of fish, those guys do.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 The PTBNL designation at this point in the year really lends itself to a you-guys-pick-from-one-of-these-fungible-outfielders kinda situation, doesn't it?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 It's always shocking to see Ashie with a negative opinion of a player.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Interesting that Pittsburgh took a shot on Florida Lefty slugger Gaby Sanchez who had a big year but ended up in the minors a year later and takes on Ike as a similar project..
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I'd rather see this player named sooner instead of later, if only to sate my curiosity.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Just found out. Kinda shocked. Don't know if I like it or not. We'll see who this ptbnl is.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Who in Pittsburgh is on the DL or has a no-trade clause and plays short?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I want to know and I want to know now....
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Gary just reiterated that the player to be named later is the more significant part in this deal. has that ever been the case?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I think it can be when it's a player selected in the prior draft before a year has passed. Another scenario is giving the Mets time to select among several guys etc etc.Really thought we'd have worked a 3-way for a shortstop.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I forgot that it isn't yet June.Last season's draft-- top-rated in the majors by many, including BA's Jim Callis-- is right here.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 I was thinking draft picks were six months ... but maybe it's a full year.PtbNL can be for any one of a variety of reasons: injury (although that would make it simple for most of the snoops to figure it out), Mets still deciding from a small list of players, Pitt needing to make a move somewhere first.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Our Zack facktor is getting noticeably high.
