Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I don't know if Rising Apple just didn't go with it, but a statement on the coaches would have been nice. Maybe Sandy's quote about commitment to philosophy and/or Terry's statement about strikeouts and lack o' power were in response to questions about coaching.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 He's ignoring the distinction between the words "would" and "could".Yeah, that's the genius. He subtly implies that they could, for the right player, but knowing that the media would seize on an explicit statement that they could as a promise that the team would or will (a promise the media would surely hang on him like a millstone), his deflection is slathered in plausible deniability.Frustrating, yes, but no presidential spokesman ever handled the media so well. I have no idea how a guy constructs answers on the spot that are simultaneously honest, evasive, and complex enough that by the time you figure out what he said, he's two questions down the road.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I agree Edgy, not sure if Alderson expected that to be part of his job when he was hired, he has certainly adapted to the role though.

That's more of a strategic question."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 A true asshole answer would be, "Well, technically, Daisuke is a $100 million player. Next question."
