Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, AUGUST 2013The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for August 2013 is first-time winner DILLON GEE, who also won his second consecutive (and third overall) Pitcher of the Month award. Dillon was 3-1 in August with a 2.14 ERA over six starts. Zack Wheeler finished a fairly close second, with a 2.89 August ERA and a 3-2 record in 6 starts. The leading position player was Marlon Byrd who, in his final month as a Met, hit .286/.343/.527 with 4 homers and 11 rbi. He spend the final few days of August as a Pirate, possibly costing him the extra 3.91 points he needed to win his second straight POTM award. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is first-time winner LATROY HAWKINS. LaTroy, who stepped in as the closer when Bobby Parnell went on the DL, had 6 saves in 13 games in August. His ERA for the month doesn't look as impressive: 5.25 in 12 innings. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for August is a repeat of July's winner ANDREW BROWN. Brown won easily this month. He earned 4.29 Schaefer points off the bench in August, while nobody else even earned as much as half a point.Updated award winner standings, with this month's winners in bold:PLAYER OF THE MONTHDavid Wright 13Johan Santana 6Carlos Beltran 5Jose Reyes 5R. G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I won Hawkins's 1976 card flipping when I was in seventh grade. "Man," I thought, "I get this old guy every year."
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Got a big WOW moment from the Brown. Hawkins wearing '76 Topps. Lookin good. One thing I've noticed and looking forward to next year is how kool the ASG logo looks on player cards.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 That first Brown card is really dramatic. That would have been the most spectacular card in that set.

Carlton Fisk did it, famously so, but his was a WS [crossout]walk-off[/crossout] game winning HR in the team's final AB. I think that any player doing that under ordinary circumstances 30-35 years ago would've been Valdespinned.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Love that Brown card. This may sound creepy, but doesn't Hawkins' skin look, like, really chocolatey? Like, I kinda want to snap an arm off and dunk it in my milk.
