Customer: 'Eh, I've had better, this one was kind of janish'

With 2 outs and Heyward up, it's Warthen, not Collins.

Gary and Keith approve, vocally, as they do of Wheeler's fastball, location, pitch sequencing, body language, necklace choice, beard grooming, and scent.

Well, yes, he didn't finish the inning. But, hey, he did throw a lot of pitches, so... experience points, right?

So Wheeler goes 6.2, 114 pitches. Good solid job and surely a step in the right direction but I, personally, am not salivating over it. Too many pitches.

Jeeze. From 4-0 to 4-3 in a snap. W/o a homer.
Torres =fail tonight. But he can't always be on.

Well, Rice coming in two batters too late here.

It seemed clear all night that Wheeler doesn't have an answer for Heyward.

That play gave me the impression that Mets defenders think everybody's a lot taller than they actually are.

I'm just glad that last out didn't involve any throwing. They don't seem to be very good at that.

I thought they were mistaking the backup guys for the defenders covering the bases.

Eric Young Jr really one has one tool, but it's a good one at least.

Hits a little bit; walks at about an average rate; excellent speed; very good glove even if instincts aren't always the best; can play 2B, LF, & CF.
That's a lot more than one tool even if you want to quibble with some of the above. Only in power is he significantly below ML average.

"Very good glove" might be overstating it a bit on Young Mr. Young.

"Athletic, and great at catching balls on the run; struggles with virtually every other aspect of outfield defense" might be a little more on-point.

Also, for a guy who has VERY little power compared to his peers, he walks at a below-average career rate (8.7% career). Also also, he's a well-below-average major-league hitter for said career.

Athletic speaks to more than speed. Plus, he's been giving a superlative effort, his flailing at the sinker just now notwithstanding.

Oh, I like the guy plenty, and enjoy when he does well. It's just that... that's not that often, historically.

Luis Ayala sighting? Good Lord, he looks different in navy.

Whewow-a most interesting play. Murphy all over it after Ike stabs it out of the sky.
