Taking Your Fun Where You Can Find It.

Someone in my office, big Yankee fan, went to the game last night. When I saw him this morning, he hid his face like a Mafia don on a perp walk.

I know they're gonna suck this year. But the last three days have been unalloyed fun as I watch the pain of Yankee fans. Usually these games are on weekends- having them Monday through Thursday increases the probability of me running into wounded MFY fans, and it's all good.

Of course, Dillon Gee will probably get lit up like a string of Roman Candles tonight, but I'm enjoying it while I can.

I love it too, met some very quite MFY fans here at work this morning......obviously winning helps but I like this four game format during the week.

The only problem is that they do not have the ability to not be total assholes, all the time. Just once I'd like to see them gracious in defeat.

I think that if they're going to continue with this four-game "rivalry" thing each year then the best time to do it would be immediately following the AS break. Not only does the schedule dictate the need for a four-game series there anyway--or else face the dreaded 4th consecutive off day when fans like us start going into withdrawl symptoms--but it would also allow teams to set up their rotations after the break so there'd be the best pitching match-ups and so on. If these games are as popular as Bud likes to claim they are it would be a nice kick-off to the 2nd half.

What's holding this up is probably something stupid like the teams being unable to give ground over who gets the Thurs/Fri home games and who gets the more lucrative Sat/Sun; but if it's a true-intra-city match-up it's easy enough to just go 1-1-1-1 and if there's more travel involved (like that always popular Atlanta-Toronto tilt) then you alternate years as far as who gets the weekend.

Not that I think there's a ton they can do about it, but the Yankees and Mets probably prefer the weekend since it seems it's not enough to sell out weekdays.

But it's fun, I find it easier to devote my attention to it on a weekday (I even almost went last night since it wasn't sold out) than it is during a summer or otherwise busy weekend. And we don't have to deal with Fox/ESPN crap this way so really pushes the localness of it.

You geezes have the wrong attitude. I had a Phillies phan I worked with here, and I'd bet a lunch on any Mets/Phils series. I'd take him out, he'd take me out, we'd talk aobut Freddie Galvis' roids and Jordany Valdespin's bollux and have a good old time. After the Mets won two series in a row, he'd opt out of betting, but he wouldn't gloat after a win. Celebrate maybe, but not gloat.

If somebody does gloat, well, you remind them, "If you didn't have the faith to bet before, but gloat afterwards, you know that makes you a horrible, horrible human being, right?

Some were pretty gracious on Tuesday. A couple were similarly so on Wednesday (though markedly fewer than the day before).

They haven't said a thing today-- online or otherwise.
