Signed to a minor league deal after Marlins release him. 31 years old. Been around. Has a hot sister:

From 2001-2003 he pitched for Rice. Now he has a chance to pitch with Rice.

How often has this happened before? Ryan's teammates who attended Howard? Cohorts of Don who played for Baylor? Brett's buddies who went to Butler?

I'm pretty sure Mayo, Ozzie and Reggie never had it happen.

Tim Byrdak went to Rice...will we see him this year?

That was just plain un-American.

If he pitches for the Mets, he'll do the same thing (on the Mets all-time list) to Don Aase.

it happens more often than you might think. Here are a few.

For the Angels in 2003, former Troy Trojan Tom Gregorio formed a late-inning battery with reliever Troy Percival.
Where would the 1969-71 Orioles have been with third-string catcher and Cal State Chico alum Clay Dalrymple and super-sub Chico Salmon?

Okay, those are first names. If you want some last names:

Dal Maxvill, holder of a degree in electrical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, played on the 1975 A's with Claudell Washington.
Austin College Kangaroo Charlie Robertson had a cup of coffee with the 1926 Browns, sharing bench time with coach and emergency third baseman Jimmy Austin.
Mets content: proud Philander Smith grad Sammy Drake played on the 1962 Mets with noted philanderer Bobby Smith.

Nice. The other Smith College gets a nod.

Among other possibilities for the current squad:

Lyon College, a Presbyterian school in Arkansas
Wilbur Wright College, City Colleges of Chicago
Davis College, a Christian Bible college located in Johnson City, NY.
The Turner College of Business, Columbus (GA) State University
The Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies, CUNY
Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, TN
Harvey Mudd College, a private residential liberal arts college of science, engineering, and mathematics in Claremont, California
ACG Parnell College, Auckland NZ, which is for students years 1-13
Baxter College, a mixed secondary school with academy status located in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. Ages 11-18.
Bucks County Community College, in PA

Not to mention Valdespin University, where young ballplayers go to learn how to play the game right, goddammit.

Aase displacing Agee is a minor Happiest Recap plot point. Not quite like reworking all the "...and they were still searching for their first no-hitter" references in volume one, but still.
