Memories of Danny Herrera

The subject of my dreamy avatar, recovering from Tommy John surgery and eyeing a May return, was released from minor league camp today along with Brad Holt, Craig Hansen, Mike Wilson, Corey Patterson, Pedro Zapata and Brandon Brown.

Feel free to offer memories of them, but Daniel Ray was the only one who played for the big club, having come over in the K-Rod trade.

He goes out in some haughty company, joining three first-round (including supplemental) picks: Holt (#33, 2008, Mets), Craig Hansen (#26, 2005, Red Sox, out of Glen Cove HS and St. John's U.), and Patterson (#3, 1998, Cubs). Wilson had been a 2001 second-rounder.

Dreamy Daniel Ray, listed at 5'6 and 165, was a 45th rounder who made it further than most of them. (All of them if you only count the Mets, and you really only should.) I'm going to need a new avatar.

I just replaced that photo with a closer crop.

MK always favored shorter hair while pitching. But the height is correct.
