Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Looking to add a buncha dudes to the roster--- the Byrds, the [crossout:26q9biim]Hefners[/crossout:26q9biim] Laffeys, las Quinanillas, and maybe an Atchison or two, the Mets are reportedly looking to trade a prospect or three, rather than expose them to waivers by removing them from the 40.Gonzalez Germen, Darin Gorski, Reese Havens, Juan Lagares, Cesar Puello, Elvin Ramirez and Hansel Robles, have your bags ready.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Where did this come from?I would think Puello (even with PED history) Ramirez and the others would catch a bid or two...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 26, 2013 Author Posted March 26, 2013 The report comes from Rubin. But the roster crunch itself is no news.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Some guys, guys for sale. They're going cheap.Only minor prospects. That -- or thereabouts.Lame guys...Rather frail...From lack of `roids.don't think that they are winners. Our hurlers get no outs.If I should say their bats were quite productive...I could not, I'd be telling you a tale. Some guys,Guys for sale.Guys we cannot keep.Have you ever seen asWeakA bunchFor sale!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 That Lagares and Puello are even on the roster serves to demonstrate how thin our outfield prospect base is at the higher level. I don't think either one would be claimed. If I'm a club rebuilding after a sour year, I'd totally make a grab at Havens, though. Maybe Germen too. Hansel is attractive but he hasn't pitched above Brooklyn.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 i thought the Mets were a club rebuilding after a sour year? why shouldn't THEY make a grab for Havens, German and Robles, rather than risk losing them to fill the pen and bench with worn-out retreads?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 They're not in a position where the best and only chance to get value out of them is to put them in the big leagues now. A Rule V claiming team would be.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 It's not a Rule V situation. Any team can soon claim them and stash them in the minors. The problem is that we need to make room for LaTroy Hawkins to give up home runs, so Reese Havens can make the All-Star Team six times in ten years as the future starting second baseman for the Orioles.Frig.

Since the difference between Atchison and Hawkins (for example) and arms already on the 40man (e.g., Elvin Ramirez) is NOT going to be the difference between success and failure this year, risking the loss of prospects just to gain the advantage of that difference seems foolhardy and short-sighted to me.
