The Mets will want to be sure they don't give up too soon on Byrd so I think he gets the first crack at RF at least in a platoon. Much will then depend on his first 150 ABs and also, how Doodoo is coming along.

So maybe he sticks around longer than I might expect and gives us 5-20/290/340/440 in 250 trips. If he does he's got to lose those awful sunglasses he's been wearing.

Those three posts seem to add up to the second tenure of Gary Matthews, Jr., don't they?

190 PAs, .228/.290/.390, "good leadership, great with the younger guys"

Given the standards of our outfield, his .680 OPS will be good enough to get 400 ABs.

Byrd's had some nice hits, and maybe that looks like a nice start, but it's feeling like fool's gold to me. Yesterday's hit was largely (mostly?) a byproduct of Mike Redmond's questionable management. His big knock on opening day was a pitch hanging in the strike zone after he chased two saptraps low and away.

A better indicator, I fear, is his general participation in the strikeout parade in the middle of the order.

i think he'll win the RF job outright, hitting .280 with minimal power.

I think i get credit for 2 out of 3.
And, according to Meatloaf, 2 Out of 3 Ain't Bad..
