Tommy Hanson for reliever Jordan Walden, the big whiffy reliever.

Hanson had an off-year and is due a salary increase but I wouldn't be trading big starters for big relievers.

Shit, how many relievers do the Braves need?!?
Between Kimbrel, Venters, O'Flaherty, and now this guy it sounds like they're trying to turn everything into a 5-inning game.

That said, Hanson never really developed the way peeps hoped. He was a major prospect just a few years back.
Plus there's the old adage that if the Braves call offering pitching you should RUN the other way cuz if he was any good they wouldn't be offering.

Agree with Bucket on trading starters.......damn, the Braves are not the sentimental type, always doing something.

Each year seemed worse than the previous with Hanson. I certainly agree that trading a starter for a reliever is not usually a good idea, but the Braves thinking on Hanson might have moved past "sell high" to "sell while you can." Something tells me one of these teams will wind up regretting this deal.

I hope this blows up in the Braves' faces of course, but when have the Braves traded away a young starter and it worked out well for the other team? I thought they got killed on the Millwood deal at the time but he turned to junk quickly too.

Jason Schmidt has a lengthy career including some real good seasons for Pitt & SF following his being dealt as a PTBNL by the Braves at age 23
Atlanta did get the then 27 y/o Denny Neagle in the return and got two good seasons out of him, but they would have been better off keeping Schmidt.

And, still, he's stuck around like mill sap. If I were, say, Rick Heiling, I'd be resentful.
