Yesterday, I was thinking of creating a quiz in the style of your current one. I was looking at the display of baseball cards in the most lifetime hits quiz thread and wondering to myself if anyone would've been able to figure out the question or theme by simply looking at the cards.

Anyways, I've spent about 20 or 30 minutes on your quiz, and am no closer to solving it now then when I first logged on to your page. No ideas. Stumped for now.

It's rather diabolical.

My lack of success on G-Fafif's quiz tells me I'll do no better on your baseball card one.

Wow. I'm impressed.

The furthest I've gotten was that they all seemed to be righty/righties, but Everett switch-hit, and the last guy on the list batted lefty, so that's out. They all threw righty however. Whoop-de-do. They all had two eyes, also.

A lot of them had medium complexions and I thought, maybe they're all mixed race. But that would probably come as a big surprise to Eddie Kasko's parents, as he's as white as an envelope

i thought briefly that i might be on track with something, but then it proved a dead end.

or maybe i didn't just pull the string long enough...

oe: got it. assembling answer now.

Indeed, it wasn't a sprint, but a marathon -- and metsmarathon claimed the second DVD.

The ten players were those who got the first hit ever against the Mets in regular-season play for each of the franchises (under their current guise) who are/were in the 2012 postseason. Marathon and another reader figured that out and then identified which player did the deed for each team.

Quiz inspired, in part, by Swan's "Mets Firsts" challenge the other day.

i saw that javier was hte first player to get a hit against teh mets in '62, and thought originally that it might be a list of players who got the first hits against a given mets manager, but that didn't pan out at all.

i then looked into the players' all star game appearances, but poor brian hunter never made it. all other players appeared to have been on the same all star roster with a hall of fame pitcher (or future hall of famer) who eventually would play for the mets, though that's hardly a limiting circumstance.

then i saw the hint, and it all clicked - javier got hte first hit for a cardinal. and i figured jeter probably did it for the yanks so i looked up surhof. sure 'nuf! then it was just a matter of time to find out when the rangers and a's first played hte mets, and again the atlanta iteration of hte braves and hte american iteration of les expos.

very nice.
