Substituting for Edgy because he hasn't started the Chipper Jones Night thread, presumably out of sadness for the loss of a great opponent (uh-huh).

Ruben Tejada SS
Daniel Murphy 2B
David Wright 3B
Ike Davis 1B
Scott Hairston CF
Lucas Duda LF
Mike Baxter RF
Josh Thole C
Jonathon Niese LHP

Neise looking pretty sharp, but Freddie the Freeloader hit one three miles to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. Hudson, for the most part, is making the Mets look like they're swinging strands of fresh pappardelle.

Funny how the hitting returns to normal (our version of normal) when facing major league pitchers instead of whatever the Marlins & Pirates were throwing out there.

And with that, Murph leads off with a double.

Hey, it's not a single.

And speaking of not a single, Homer Bailey heads to the 9th in Pittsburgh with a no-hitter.

Jeez, the Mets got robbed a lot this week. Heyward with a full extension, cross-body dive to pick one inches from the turf on Wright.

Say Heyward! (Dammit.)

Watching Braves' young slugger go very deep a few weeks ago in the company of fellow Mets fans (after fighting to get a restaurant TV changed to the Mets game), a friend of a friend at the table was all "I hate that guy." Why, he was asked. "Because he's so good."

Not a great reason to hate an opposing player -- except when he's just killed you, I suppose.

Bloops tend to get you robbed a lot (and we tend to hit a lot of bloops) although Alvarez did rob some hot shots at 3B the other day at CitiField

I'm thinking Peterson and Snyder climbing the walls vs. Dickey and Baxter.

That was hot, specially since they IW'ed themselves into this mess. I was looking up images of Art Howe to say "He battled!"

See?

Sorry, but I was on the road.

Wife DC: What did you say you needed a smart phone for?

Edgy: I need to start In-Game Threads from the road.

    Wifey: Ummm...

Great play, Wright.

Down side of the Mets taking a seventh-inning lead is that Jones is now set up to become a late-inning hero on his own night.

Yeah FUCK YOU Hudson -- serves you right for turning that into a 10 minute AB!!!!
How'd that work out for ya, huh?

And, really, did Hudson think Ike was going to be going on the pitch or something?
He was just throwing to 1st and doing that whole fake-3rd-go-1st thing as a stall and as a way not to pitch to Duda ... except he IW'd Ike just to get to Duda which is why I say ... Fuckin' serves ya right!

Out on the road today
I posted IGT from a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said
"Baxter's batting seventh?"

Hairy foiled the strategy by striking out rather than grounding into a 6-4-3.

Freddy sez: Since the IBB worked so well last inning, let's try again.

Stupid half-right Freddy.
