Mets Manager Terry Collins Takes Shot At Yankee Stadium

The Citi Field version of the 2012 Subway Series between the New York Yankees and Mew York Mets does not begin until Friday night. Mets manager Terry Collins has, however, already fired the first salvo. Collins Wednesday took a shot at the cozy confines of Yankee Stadium.

"Our ballpark plays a little bit differently than theirs," he said, adding later: "Yankee Stadium is a great place for their team and their fans; theres a lot of home runs hit. They can hit them out of here, too; its just not quite as easy as it is over there."

The Mets were swept by the Yankees recently in the Bronx, where nine home runs were hit Wednesday in a game between the Yankees and Atlanta Braves. Yankee Stadium, with its short and low right-field porch, is surrendering 2.88 home runs per game this season, and only Denver's Coors Field, at an even 3.00 homers per game, is giving up more.

The Mets moved the fences in at the formerly cavernous Citi Field for this season, but the stadium is still giving up only 1.57 home runs per game. That is slightly more than the 1.33 home runs per game hit there a season ago, but Citi would still appear to be pitcher-friendly.

That was before they pushed the walls back. (no idea if that mattered on that day)
