Kingsport represents neither "kings" nor a "port." Discuss.

The Kingsport managerial chair had been reported to belong to 2011 Mets coach-with-a-funny-name John Debus. But now it's being announced that the job will go to the mysterious "Jose Leger" --- which sounds like a made-up name if I ever heard one.

Jose, 30, is the author of two unremarkable minor league seasons and two years managing Mets DSL clubs.

The name is a simplification of "King's Port", originally referring to the area on the Holston River known as King's Boat Yard, the head of navigation for the Tennessee Valley.

As for the fictitious Mr. Leger, I submit that it's actually Jerry Manuel surreptitiously trying to rebuild his managerial career.
