Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Taking a scandalous moment to check the out-of-town scoreboard, we pretty much had a best case scenario, with Philadelphia beating the Miamis and Atlanta and Washington being rained out, allowing us to pull into a tie with the Fishies and gain a half game on the Natties. We're playing for first place tomorrow. And it's Dickey Day.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Is it too much to ask R.A. Dickey to throw a no-hitter? I have a feeling it's not gonna be another 50 years until the next one. It would be hilarious if it only took 24 hours.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I wonder how many insane Mets fans tonight are thinking this could actually happen. If he gets through the first inning unscathed I'm going to be on pins and needles.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 Phillies up 3-2 on the Marlins. Washington and Atlanta tied.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Marlins vis 2-HRs from Hanley hold on to beat Phils 5-4Nats behind Strasberg for 7 IP shut-out Braves 2-0So we get no closer to 1st place although the division gets a bit less scrunched up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 Yeah, keeping pace is fine. Got the Nats next week.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Omir Santos walk off sac fly (because the Tigers have TWO active injured catchers) seals the win for the Tigers over the Yankees (puts them 1.5 behind the Mets btw) with Verlander going tomorrow. McCarver calls it the "biggest moment in Santos' life" Also, they remind us it's Mets Yankees on Fox next Saturday. is it too late to go to that one?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 The Tiggers tried about 15 different ways to blow that game. And Valverde flat out sucks.

Verlander tomorrow off of two consecutive losses. Never happens. Hard to see him losing that game. Some people harping on this schedule difficulty for the Mets coming up, and I get the sense it's their personal bet with the team "Get through these games that I think should dominate you, and then I'll believe". I wonder what it feels like next weekend. Mets exciting fun gutty team against the tired, old and unclutch Yankees. Could be a chance to really assert themselves. Also a huge first place showdown with the Nats first.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Braves beat Nats, Marlins beat Phils ... all of which tightens up the division a bit and puts Miami & Washington into a virtual 1st-place tie with us sitting just an itty-bitty 1/2 game back.Yanx beat the Tiggers as Verlander loses his third straight start.Seeing just bits and pieces of their games this weekend, Detroit looks horrible; lots of errors and not very good pitching.- Sat night they let the Yanx tie the game with a run in both the 8th and again in the 9th with I believe one hit total. Tiger pitchers instead tossed in 3 or 4 walks on top of 3 HBPs, plus a missed pop-up, un-turned DPs, etc. Only Miggy Cabrera's absurd slugging (HR - 2B - HR on three swings that each looked as easy as a golfer's wedge shot) saved that game for them.- Today I saw them turn a Cano fly ball which, while pretty deep, also had a lot of air under it, into an untouched double. Then slow retrieval turned it into a triple, at which point the relay to 3rd, which was both unnecessary and bad, skipped into the dugout making the whole mess effectively into a 2R HR.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Strap 'em on, gents. We're playing for a share of first place tonight.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 And there it is, ladies y gentles.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 There's a little too much company in first place right now. Luckily the Mets will be heading to Washington this week to battle the Nationals for NL East primacy. And that must be one of the more improbable sentences ever written.
