If Tejada is out more than a day or two Qunitanilla will be here faster than you can say 'Wilson Delgado'

Rube will be evaluated today. The chances are good he will be put on the DL, in which case Valdespin can be recalled. If he doesn't need to be put on the DL, which would be good news in the long term, I guess we see Quintanilla.

Cedeno was supposed to start a rehab assignment today. The plan was to activate him on Friday, but I suppose circumstances may alter that plan.

Cedeno isn't actually even eligible to come off until..Thursday? so might see Q for Rottino in the meantime.

Buzz late last night seemed to be DL for Tejada which I have to imagine means Valdespin starting most games.

In terms of Depth? they did slide Wright over there late in a game last year so I guess he might serve as the emergency guy if they played short today and Turner got hurt.

Quintanilla would need to be added to the 40... which can take place without having to waive anyone as soon as the Mets slide Pelfrey to the 60-man.

Fartnuggets. Acosta, then? Carrasco?

One option: Pedro Beato could get transferred to the 60-day DL, and be eligible to come off on June 5. Mejia is just about ready to see game action.

Another option is removing Schwin.

This move befuddles me. What is Rottino bringing that was worth adding him?

CBS local website wrote:
A team source told the New York Post that Tejadas MRI results were not good, and though not certain, a trip to the disabled list was very likely. The 22-year-old was injured while beating out a bunt single in the bottom of the fourth inning, which resulted in a nasty spill over the bag at first.

The final decision wont be made until hes evaluated, a source told the paper. Tejada still thinks he can play in a few days.

Justin Turner replaced Tejada at shortstop, and Mets manager Terry Collins said the infielder could fill in for a time at the position. The Mets planned to bring an extra player to Philadelphia on Monday as insurance in case Tejada needs to go on the DL.

If they think its going to be five, six days, well probably have to make some move, said Collins.

Tejada is batting .305 with 10 doubles and eight RBIs in his first year as a full-time starter.

See! He's doing a FINE job replacing Reyes!

Quintanilla was a 1st round pick by Oakland, who has had a very good minor league career as a SS. He has not been productive in various opportunities with the Rockies, but at 31, having another good AAA season, seems absolutely the person best suited to fill the slot if Rube goes on the DL. I'm not sanguine about using Valdespin there, with his much more limited experience at the position and his long-term potential at other positions. I don't think there is much doubt that Quints is a steadier fielder, and he's even put up a better career OPS in the minors, and while it's entirely possible that Quints may ultimately prove to be no more than a AAAA-type player, I don't get the rationale for Valdy being anointed the likely replacement, since he's never proven anything.

Vic Sage, as he frequently but not always is, is right.

who did i used to say that about?
CF? 13?
Somebody... i forget.
God, i've been on this board a long time.

I didn't get the rational for Valdespin being brought up in the first place, but it seems like we've got 40 man issues and Cedeno probably taking over on Friday anyway so Quintanilla probably doesn't add enough to add him to the roster.

i understand the roster problem (though you mentioned some obvious workarounds), and if Cedeno's return is imminent, it probably doesn't matter much. I just think there is no good BASEBALL reason for using guys like Turner or Valdespin at SS, even short term, when there is a way to get an experienced SS like Quints onto the active roster without losing anybody (e.g., Beato to 60day dl), and if Cedeno isn't really ready to come back just yet, they should get Quints up as soon as possible.

Yes but Quintanilla would have to be sent down again. unlikely he's sticking. That may be more the issue than moving around players to find room for him.

He's hitting well this year about an .804 OPS in the Pacific Coast League..well.. a wee bit below the PCL average last year. That's in 300 games. Valdespin barely has 300 AB and has a much higher upside.

I'll just guess that they have baseball reasons for not choosing to put Beato on the 60-Day, though I may disagree.

And I think I do.

As per Guys!:

Tejada to DL w right quad strain. Valdespin replaces him. More on pre-game, 630 on SNY

I think it speaks volumes about the thread topic that we're biding time waiting for Ronny Fucking Cedeno.

Leaving aside 40-man space, is Q out of options? If so he'd be able to refuse the assignment back down and/or could be claimed by another team right?

Not using a guy because you're afraid you might lose him two weeks later would seem to be a losing strategy. Especially if he may become your first stringer the moment he shows up. If he plays well, he looks to stay. If he plays ill, he's unlikely to be lost. If he is lost, se la vie, but they needed him.

Anyhow, Valdespin showed why he's the man tonight.

Any word back on Cedeno's condition. Because we're possibly in the same place we were in at the top of this thread:
