Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Has he been added? With that gallery of options, it would seem inevitable.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 If Tejada is out more than a day or two Qunitanilla will be here faster than you can say 'Wilson Delgado'
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Rube will be evaluated today. The chances are good he will be put on the DL, in which case Valdespin can be recalled. If he doesn't need to be put on the DL, which would be good news in the long term, I guess we see Quintanilla. Cedeno was supposed to start a rehab assignment today. The plan was to activate him on Friday, but I suppose circumstances may alter that plan.

Buzz late last night seemed to be DL for Tejada which I have to imagine means Valdespin starting most games. In terms of Depth? they did slide Wright over there late in a game last year so I guess he might serve as the emergency guy if they played short today and Turner got hurt.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Quintanilla would need to be added to the 40... which can take place without having to waive anyone as soon as the Mets slide Pelfrey to the 60-man.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Pelfrey was slud onto the 60-man to add Rottino.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Fartnuggets. Acosta, then? Carrasco?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 One option: Pedro Beato could get transferred to the 60-day DL, and be eligible to come off on June 5. Mejia is just about ready to see game action.Another option is removing Schwin.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 See! He's doing a FINE job replacing Reyes! (Ducks flying fruit)
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Quintanilla was a 1st round pick by Oakland, who has had a very good minor league career as a SS. He has not been productive in various opportunities with the Rockies, but at 31, having another good AAA season, seems absolutely the person best suited to fill the slot if Rube goes on the DL. I'm not sanguine about using Valdespin there, with his much more limited experience at the position and his long-term potential at other positions. I don't think there is much doubt that Quints is a steadier fielder, and he's even put up a better career OPS in the minors, and while it's entirely possible that Quints may ultimately prove to be no more than a AAAA-type player, I don't get the rationale for Valdy being anointed the likely replacement, since he's never proven anything.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Vic Sage, as he frequently but not always is, is right.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 who did i used to say that about?CF? 13?Somebody... i forget. God, i've been on this board a long time.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I didn't get the rational for Valdespin being brought up in the first place, but it seems like we've got 40 man issues and Cedeno probably taking over on Friday anyway so Quintanilla probably doesn't add enough to add him to the roster.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 The rationale for Valdespinmeister has going for him is 40-man-rosteriness.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 i understand the roster problem (though you mentioned some obvious workarounds), and if Cedeno's return is imminent, it probably doesn't matter much. I just think there is no good BASEBALL reason for using guys like Turner or Valdespin at SS, even short term, when there is a way to get an experienced SS like Quints onto the active roster without losing anybody (e.g., Beato to 60day dl), and if Cedeno isn't really ready to come back just yet, they should get Quints up as soon as possible.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Yes but Quintanilla would have to be sent down again. unlikely he's sticking. That may be more the issue than moving around players to find room for him. He's hitting well this year about an .804 OPS in the Pacific Coast League..well.. a wee bit below the PCL average last year. That's in 300 games. Valdespin barely has 300 AB and has a much higher upside.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 I'll just guess that they have baseball reasons for not choosing to put Beato on the 60-Day, though I may disagree. And I think I do.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 As per Guys!:Tejada to DL w right quad strain. Valdespin replaces him. More on pre-game, 630 on SNYI think it speaks volumes about the thread topic that we're biding time waiting for Ronny Fucking Cedeno.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Leaving aside 40-man space, is Q out of options? If so he'd be able to refuse the assignment back down and/or could be claimed by another team right?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Not using a guy because you're afraid you might lose him two weeks later would seem to be a losing strategy. Especially if he may become your first stringer the moment he shows up. If he plays well, he looks to stay. If he plays ill, he's unlikely to be lost. If he is lost, se la vie, but they needed him.Anyhow, Valdespin showed why he's the man tonight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Any word back on Cedeno's condition.
