Milwaukee is 12th, 11 below the league average.so maybe that helps.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Batista actually pitched .1 against the Phillies. Acosta loaded the bases, Batista emptied them for him. 3 batters, 16 pitches, 10 strikes, Double, Single, Ground-out.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Well that's reassuring. Perhaps after this experiment fails the Mets will recall Chris Schwinden.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Couldn't we just go to a four man rotation?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I would do that. There are days off scattered in May which would allow the fifth spot to be skipped a couple of times. I think Johan can pitch on four days rest. If you can skip the "Batista spot" once or twice, why not?

If you can skip the "Batista spot" once or twice, why not? There is one off day in May, Thursday, and it doesn't really allow any normal skipping of the 5th spot. They're not even sure they're 100% comfortable pitching Santana on normal rest every time. He's actually only done it once this year. (and won't do it again until next Wednesday) I think we might be past the problem stage of where we're worried his shoulder won't be up for it, but certainly not where you push him. Maybe in September if you need to get him an extra start, but not now. You _might_ be able to massage it a little coming up to push back Batista starts a day or two, but you'd probably rather pitch him against Milwaukee than Cincinnati.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 It's Terry's job to be patient where we are demanding, to make sure he still has a team standing in September. It's annoying, but I get it.Still kinda disappointing to see Batista instead of Hefner.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Tonight was a mixed bag. But maybe Hefner isn't the only option under consideration. I mean, there's al-- Wait, what is that? Could it be? Is that... Jenrry Mejia's music?A lot of people might forget about Mejia, said one high-ranking team official. But heis progressing very well, and he could be in position to make a start for us before long.Mejia, the phenom from 2010 who is still just 22 years old, is scheduled to make a rehaf start in the Florida State League on Wednesday. Organizational sources say that the Mets are leaning toward viewing Mejia as a reliever long-term, but that it is possible he could be a stopgap starter within weeks. At the very least, the team expects him at Citi Field before any of their other top pitching prospects, Matt Harvey, Jeurys Familia and Zack Wheeler.Mejia will likely be in New York sooner than the other three, said a team official.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Doesn't really matter who's first. Having four guys like that on track is fine by me. Sort of the main reason I think the Mets gain an advantage as the season progresses. Greater chance that somebody emerges.

Meija is also on the roster, due to that 2010, so all things being equal..He's also already proven he has at least some ability to get major league hitters out. But still, Mets official, lets actually let him throw a game or two back from Tommy John before we rank them?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 By pitching into the sixth inning last night, I assume that Batista has secured himself at least one more start.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Boy, by the skin of his butt he may have.Heroic little mopup by Acosta.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Second time in as many days his emergency inning started the turning of the tide.

Perhaps after this experiment fails the Mets will recall Chris Schwinden.Be careful of your sarcastic wishes. The Schwinden Mets are reunited.Mets place Batista on DL, recall Schwinden Published: May 20, 2012 TORONTO (AP) The New York Mets placed right-hander Miguel Batista on the 15-day disabled list Sunday and recalled right-hander Chris Schwinden from Triple-A Buffalo.Batista left Saturday's start at Toronto after two innings with a minor muscle pull in his lower back. Batista warmed up to start the third, but had to be replaced by right-hander Jeremy Hefner. After Hefner pitched five innings against the Blue Jays, Mets manager Terry Collins said Hefner would take Batista's place in the rotation if a DL stint was required.Schwinden appeared in two games for the Mets in April, going 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA. After being demoted to the minors, he went 3-2 with a 2.54 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A.Read more: http://newsok.com/mets-place-batista-on-dl-recall-schwinden/article/feed/384300#ixzz1vQV1nzJg
