Rubin tweeting that Pelfrey is getting an MRI, possible ligament tear and Robert Carson headed from Buffalo. Don't think I've heard of Carson.

Figures that the guy who "gives you innings, at least" goes down as soon as he starts looking like he can push to new heights.

Really, I'm just surprised this isn't an intercostal issue or hairline fracture or something. Ribs are like the new obliques around here.

well, here's hoping it's just soreness and not actually ligament damage, which i assume is code for tommy john?

Carson is a lefty reliever, presumably only here until Friday when they promote...Schwinden? Hefner?

It's official:

Mets put RHP Pelfrey on 15-day disabled list with elbow problem, LF Bay out with broken rib

By Associated Press, Updated: Tuesday, April 24, 4:46 PM

NEW YORK The New York Mets have put starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey and left fielder Jason Bay on the 15-day disabled list.

The Mets made the moves before Tuesday nights game against Miami.

Pelfrey is sidelined with inflammation in his right elbow. But Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says the team hasnt ruled out a torn ligament, and says Pelfrey will get a second opinion.

Bay broke a rib on his left side trying for a diving catch during Monday nights doubleheader sweep by San Francisco. The Mets say an MRI exam showed a nondisplaced fracture.

Infielder Zach Lutz and left-handed pitcher Robert Carson were recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.

Pelfrey & Bay 21 million on the shelf.. Howya doin Fred!

Again, it seems it's two guys a lot of people didn't want on the field anyway.

All contracts carry injury risks. That's baseball. Ask Bill Giles or David Montgomery how they're doing paying Utley and Howard.

Ligament tear, gone for the season, says Rubin.

Is Chris Young anywhere close to being ready?

OE: Young is several weeks away from even minor league games. Schwinden expected this week.

Rubin's a moron.

edit: Ligament tear not ruled out. further tests tomorrow for full diagnosis followed by a second opinion. 2-3 days yet before we know. Best case is probably like 3-4 weeks. according to Alderson.

Schwinden probably making the start.

Up to Collins, but probably Nieuwenhuis in left, Torres in center. Torres probably returns in Houston rather than in Colorado.

* Rubin's either got some real good inside info that no one else seems to have or he's going way out on a limb here.

* I don't think Hefner can be an option for at least ten days since he was just sent down.
Yeah you can get around that rule in cases of an injury but it seems to me that [u:2chtk2l0]today's move[/u:2chtk2l0] was the one in response to Pelfrey's injury and I don't believe a theoretical swap of Carson for Hefner 3 or 4 days from now would qualify under that loophole.

* Club saying that Harvey & Familia are NOT options at this time.

found Rubin's link. he's claiming someone told him that he does indeed have a partial tear and the Mets are 'bracing' to lose him for the season but exploring other options. The way he writes it makes it sound worse, like it's a foregone conclusion but Alderson made it out like they had no idea and needed to see what the next 2-3 days bring.

Sounds like Sandy. Fuck me running.

Guys have pitched with partial tears (if that's what it is) but I suppose it's only a matter of time until that becomes a full tear in need of full repair.
Pelf might want to take care of things before it ever gets to that point just so it gets him on the road to recovery now that he's going to be entering his FA years.
Obviously not good timing for the Mets in general. Really suxx for him though.

Saw it also...with a caveat from Pelfrey himself that it may not be that bad.

Two sentences most Americans never want to hear:

- "Hi, I'm Mike Wallace from '60 Minutes' and I'd like to talk to you about your company's finances"

- "It might be nothing but we've made an appointment for you with Dr. James Andrews"

Yeah, I can't tell you how much that would creep me out.

And it ends with a really good one.

Particularly if it happened, like, this week.

I have Adam R. on line two, awaiting your apology.

You may not like him but his reporting is solid.

I didn't say his 'reporting' wasn't solid, I was implying he twisted the story in a negative light and jumping the gun on the additional testing and review, which he did. Just because he ended being correct, doesn't make it any more of a negatively spun story.

For example, Martino also mentioned the tear but mentioned the hesitancy and the hope that maybe it was just a small tear/tendinitis/non-surgical.

So what you're saying, then, is that he isn't a moron?

He wasn't guessing, for Christ's sake. He was reporting what a source told him, and focused on the possibility of season-ending surgery which, y'know, WAS the story.
