My daughter has a printout of the Mets roster hanging on the wall, and she was looking it over this morning and noted that the Mets had only two catchers. What happens, she asked, if they both got hurt?

I explained that teams usually designate a player as the "emergency catcher" and hope that it never comes to that. But I realized I have no idea who the Mets current emergency catcher is. (I assume it's no longer Joe McEwing.) My guesses, in order, were Mike Baxter, Justin Turner, and Scott Hairston. I suppose Ronny Cedeno might be in that mix too. Least likely would be David Wright (natch) and Daniel Murphy.

Does anyone know if Terry has officially designated an emergency catcher this year, and who it might be?

I think it depends on if Snooki is in the stands.
(I remember when there used to someone to act as the emergency goalie in the stands in civvies during hockey games. It was usually an amateur, practice player and, IIRC, a sportswriter at Ranger games in the old MSG.)

Can't be Lambert, he's not on the active roster. The emergency catcher is the guy who finishes the game behind the plate if both Thole and Nickeas are out of the game.

Grimm, you missed a joke, which was easy to do, since it wasn't funny.

Gotta be Myrna Turner. Or maybe in a real super emergency, Hairston.

Who, me? Yeah, I didn't think it was funny either, Shecky.

I'm thinking Turner-- he seems less breakable, more game, and, as an infielder, possessed of more squats-perience than Hairy.

I think it is Turner. I think I recall once hearing that Turner was boning up on his catching skills in case of an emergency that would require three catchers in one game.
