Jury selection for the gajillion dollar lawsuit against the Wilpons and Katzes. Jim Baumbach reports that none of the potential jurists are wearing Mets hats.

The Times suggests that recent pretrial rulings creates more motivation for both sides to settle. Howard Megdal insists that all the 'Pons' chips are on the table, and they have nothing to settle with.

Sandy Koufax expected to testify, helping make the "Well, would I throw a lighed match in there if my good friend Rocky was in there?" case.

If a potential juror showed up in Mets attire would he or she be dismissed?

showing up in the black is an automatic dismissal I would think.

What's the timeline here, weeks, months?

David Lennon: "Even as Wilpon/Picard trial proceedings are set to begin this morning, I'd be very surprised if this case isn't settled."

If this gets settled without trial I would think that is not good news for us fans that wold like to see the back of the Wilpon's.

Even the Wilpons aren't stupid enough to go on trial and prove their stupidity. It's kind of ironic.

This is why Jury Duty is rarely a big deal despite people complaining. If you don't want to do it, it's so easy to get out of just about every possible situation. Show up in a Mets hat and a "sell the team" shirt and you won't be picked.

Yes, but most voting citizens are more honorable than that.

Wasn't saying they weren't, but people gripe and complain about jury duty and "OMG what if i get on a long case?!" when really they don't want people on the jury that really don't want to be there.

People can be honorable and still whiny.

That's what makes it a point of honor. You don't actually want to do it.

I seem to remember reading that the estimate was that the trial would last three weeks.

3 weeks or 3 minutes. heh.

Well, if nothing else, this removes the uncertainty from the near future.
Doesn't mean there won't still be tough times ahead, but at least those in charge presumably know where everything stands.

FK is right--the Wilpons now have a definite amount to work with. They have to add it to the other amounts they owe but this removes the uncertainty.

See (and this tells you where I am), this really is a punch to "no way in hell" insistence of Megdal. But yeah! Go baseball!

I'm sure those (And they are, see Klap-trap) that predicted the Wilpons will lose team will continue to do so. They do have lots of loans and stadium bills and all that. But that's a long way away and their finances become even more private now so I don't see how we'll ever know.

Rubin: "And because the Wilpons will be able to recover money from loser fund, their out-of-pocket expenses should be fraction of actual settlement."

Shit. Why don't I have a loser fund?

Maybe the Marlins only wanted to borrow him to sell season tickets, and would be willing to give him back?

Great. (rolls eyes) Wait'll the Wilpons start feeling their oats again. First thing they do is bring back the black uniforms and cancel Banner Day. They don't need to be nice to us anymore. Maybe they'll demolish the Promenade, too. Because the stadium's too big as it is.
