Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 In one of the all-time great exercises in futility, I batted .120 when guessing numbers in the 2012 Roster Thread. And that was only after a really strong finish.PlayerNew NumberI HadFernando Cabrera5853Robert Carson7350Ronny Cedeno134Matt den Decker6816Juerys Familia7546Wilmer Flores711Frank Francisco4850Matt Harvey7049Reese Havens7412Jeremy Heffner5347Chuck James3644Rob Johnson1633Juan Lagares7613Adam Loewen2039Lucas May6222Mike Nickeas413Kirk Nieuwenhuis72--Garrett Olson3833Cesar Puello6722Omar Quintanilla66Ramon Ramirez5252Jon Rauch6060Vinny Rottino3344Andres Torres5656Jordanny Valdespin6162
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Bob Geren listed on the roster as #7.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 That would be ripping off the Band-Aid brand bandage in one quick pull. But the "coaches" section on the mets.com roster now has a blank next to Geren. Perhaps he'll go with something not as Geren but more Generic.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Mike Nickeas as a 4 is going to take some getting used to.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 No hesitation, says an MBTN-uncrediting Adam Rubin. Geren in 7.Sort of tacky, sort of not. More than not. He's a coach.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I was thinking they'd maybe reclaim it by bringing in Ed Kranepool or Hubie Brooks or Jeff McKnight as a spring training guest instructor. On the other hand, I also kind get the impression that Ed Kranepool doesn't get out of bed for the kind of money that the Mets would pay him to be a guest instructor.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I say, use the number right away! Rip off the band-aid! And issue number 24 as well. It's long past time to do that!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 7 on a coach is almost a compromise, the more I think about it. Kind of hiding it in plain sight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 A blurry sighting of the rumored instructimus septimus:
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
