From his minor league numbers and the position(s) he plays, looks like insurance in case Zach Lutz can't come back from last year's injury. But Lutz has more power.

I had no idea there was a Somoan American in MLB, and the son of the first Samoan athlete I ever heard of Manu Tuiasosopo.

Welcome to the Mets, Matt Tuiasosopo.

And brother of ex-NFLers Marques (QB) and Zach (RB). Does baseball make him the black sheep?

I think baseball makes him the guy who maybe should have played football like his brothers and dad. But I'm excited.

He's sorta intriguing. his numbers have been declining but if a change of venue/hitting coach could give him a boost? He plays all over the place, it's a shame he doesn't bat lefty.

He looks strong like bull. Core strength kind of strong, if you believe in that sort of thing. If he ever makes the roster, I might take him over Hairston in the wrestling pool.

The family is a real regional sports dynasty.

Daddy Manu Tuiasosopo played six years as a Seahawk.

Sister Leslie Tuiasosopo was a standout volleyballer at UWash, and is now assistant coach there.

Brother Marques Tuiasosopo played quarteback at UW and returned as strength and conditioning coach.

Brother Zach Tuiasosopo was a fullback and a belligerent drunk at UW.

Sister Ashley Tuiasosopo was a Bulldog outfielder:

And Matt, of course, was a Mariner.

Not even good numbers for the SS he once was, with a high K rate disproportionate to his power production.
But he's 25, and if continues working hard he has a decent shot of being... 26.

Oh, indeed.

A one-time 3rd round drat pick, he was considered a somewhat hot prospect for a brief time. Unfortunately that was back when he was still 20 years old, was still a SS, and had the advantage of the hitting-friendly California League to put up good offensive numbers.
IOW, round about 2006.

Other than that ... his name makes for a good SCRABBLE vowel dump.

Matt was a highly touted #1 pick. Hasn't worked out for him as of yet. Reminds me of Brandon Wood and his struggles.

Actually, "The Human Vowel Dump" isn't a bad nickname.
