Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Two years ago, the Mets sorta kinda inked Jason Bay.Strangely, our reactions --- perhaps tempered by Omar-era disappointments --- were as much about the way the news broke as the news itself. A lot of waiting for the other shoe to fall. Seems like a lot of shoes have come and still more may follow."mets news at 2pm: Fatcessa" http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/13000/f1_t13018.shtml"Olney on Bay and Mets" http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/13000/f1_t13025.shtml"Bay Reactions": http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/13000/f1_t13031.shtml"Bay physical today": http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/13000/f1_t13049.shtml"Jason Bay, Laff Riot": http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/13000/f1_t13050.shtml

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I wanted Matt Holliday and all I got was Jason BOOOOOay... You could see the bad direction the Mets were taking even then.

Jason Bay's no him.Apparently I've been begging for 'one more pitcher' for a while.Checked my own blog. Didn't write about Bay. my next post is about Rick DiPietro and hoping for a healthier blue and orange 2010. yeah..that worked.

After that, it was all over but the reckoning.I mean, in the subsequent weeks, they would still make some lower-profile but still ill-advised maneuvers like trading for Gary Matthews and signing Frank Catalonotto, but Omar was pretty much done after Bayday. The real digging work was in what came before --- Alou, Castillo, Wagner, K-Rod, Putz, Santana, Castillo, Perez, etc.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I still think Pearlman's analysis was a bunch of horseapples.Mind you, I'm also half-expecting a 2012 announcement that Bayrut's been suffering from a down-low case of "Flushing secret dengue."
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I'm sticking with the Indian Burial Ground theory.
