Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I'm always taken by suprise when these leagues start play before the World Series. These are the guys Amazin' Avenue is reporting as playing in the winter leagues. I would have thought there'd be more and won't be shocked to find there are more. I was kind of hoping to see Taylor Buchholz and maybe Jenrry Mejia, among others. Manny Alvarez, with your 10 innings pitched in the summer of 2011, what say you?Anyhow, we've got three infielders down south. Two showed up with their hitting sticks. Gamboa is kind of a secret, as he started 2011 late in the Gulf Coast League, tore the cover off the ball for 17 games, moved up to Savannah, kept hitting, and then was loaned out to Mexico City in the Mexican League, something that's done, but not usually with players so young or low down in the minors. But he held his own there even, going .265 / .302 / .465 // .771 in 21 games.Hitting GuyTeamLeagueSpecial Guest ManagerAVGGABRH2B3BHRRBITBBBSOSBCSOBPSLGOPSJosh SatinCaracasVenezuealan Winter LeagueTim Teufel.33351545001285300.500.5331.033Wilmer FloresMargaritaVenezuealan Winter LeagueDon Baylor.20052004000141300.238.200.438Juan Carlos GamboaLos MochisMexican Pacific LeagueEnrique Reyes.429414362013111200.467.7861.252Pitching GuyTeamLeagueSpecial Guest ManagerWLERAGGSCGSHOSVIPHRERHRBBSOGO/AOAVGDylan OwenCaracasVenezuealan Winter LeagueTim Teufel003.00210006.05220089.00.217Armando RodritguezEscogidoDominican Winter LeagueTony DeFrancisco000.00100002.00000020.33.000

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 - Mejia had TJ surgery in, what, May?, June? ... no way is he ready to throw in winter ball. We're probably talking the middle of next season before we see him on a mound for real-sies.- Buchholz is another one who hasn't been heard from since he last pitched at the end of May and the subsequent announcement that he was dealing with "personal issues". Don't know what his status is.- The first clue about Alvarez might be to find out why he only pitched 3 innings this season and when those were.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 'Cuz when you post at 2 AM....Buchholz was being treated for clinical depression. I don't know what hole Alvarez fell into.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I could've sworn I saw something about Nimmo playing winter ball (in the Dominican, maybe?).No Murph, either. Is the second base experiment Adam Dunn?
