bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Source: Sox made play for Mets CapuanoTheir wild card lead evaporating, the Red Sox are on the hunt for reinforcements, even if only for a game, in an attempt to make the playoffs.According to a source with knowledge of the talks, the Red Sox have spent the better part of a week trying to pry left-handed starter and West Springfield native Chris Capuano from the New York Mets for cash in order to start on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. However, it appears the Mets will keep Capuano, who is 11-12 with a 4.47 ERA. Capuano is playing on a one-year, $1.5 million contract.Capuano would not be eligible for the postseason with the Red Sox, but hed be able to help them over the final week of the regular season as they struggle to get quality starts out of a rotation thats as big a culprit as any for the teams 5-16 slide in September.Capuano, a Cathedral grad, was an All-Star with the Brewers in 2006 before undergoing a pair of Tommy John surgeries on his elbow, which sidelined him for the entire 2008 and 2009 seasons. He has returned this year to strike out 155 in 175.1 inning and would have given the team a boost in the series finale at New York, particularly since the Yankees hitters are unfamiliar with him and would have little opportunity to advance scout him.http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/red_sox/index.php/2011/09/22/source-sox-made-play-for-mets-capuano/
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I wonder why Sandy wouldn't part with him?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Capuano is not under contract beyond next week so why not get something for nothing? Perhaps Sandy is planning on resigning Capuano and doesn't want him to possibly fall in love with Boston (which is doubtful since it's only for a week and they're on the road).

Then again, you're only going to get crap back for it, so why bother? Or maybe he asked Capuano, and he didn't want to go.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Bay is still sick, I guess.I wonder if he'd be more motivated to play if he knew he was in the running for his first ever Schaefer POTM award?

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Bruce Boisclair is kicking ass on Rain Delay Theater. But Mike Vail illustrates how "all surprises were not pleasant".
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Doesn't sound like we're playing ball for a while yet. But, being the last week of the season and the Cards being in the mix, they're going to try like hell to get it it.And ... wait for it ... they see a window!!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) Howie is talking about how Cardinals fans are "condescending" toward New York for allegedly ignoring St. Louis. Another reason to love Howie.Howie says that the fans in St. Louis don't have the passion that east coast fans have so they don't get criticized or cheered the same way. He says that there's "no soul" there. Edited September 22, 2011 by Guest
