nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Excellent and interesting article on the value of catchers ability to "frame" a pitch...http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=15093Based on a different study that concluded a ball incorrectly called a strike was worth .13 runs on average, Jose Molina's ability to frame pitches (the study says this mostly results from a 'lack of movement' [head, body, and glove] while catching) has saved 73 runs since 2007. Jorge Posada's complete inability to do so has cost the Yankees 50 runs over that same time frame (Doumit and Laird were the only catchers worse)Thole saved 2.6 runs over parts of 2 years...so he's basically not having an affect, good or bad, in this area.
