On this night six years ago, when my wife brought home our new kitten, Pedro Martinez beat the Atlanta Braves.

Jose Reyes - SS
Angel Pagan - CF
David Wright - 3B
Lucas Duda - RF
Jason Bay - LF
Nick Evans - 1B
Josh Thole - C
Ruben Tejada - 2B
Chris Capuano - LHP

The good news is we're facing Derek Lowe and not some pitcher who is looking for his first ML win.
The bad is that we're coming off a series where I believe they made more outs on the base-paths (CS, pick-offs, GiDPs, thrown out tagging, etc.) than they scored actual runs, and now have to go face a real team.

When I'm 96 and bedridden and don't seem like I'm with it at all, my grandkids will test me by saying "Derek Lowe."

And I'll spontaneously respond, "BOOOOOOO!!!!"

David Wright: still awesom.e 2-run homer gives them the lead. (okay, it's the top of the first still)

Reyes also got a hit.

Why isn't Turner playing at his own field?

Ha! I just cancelled my subscription. (I still get service up until my billing cycle ends, which is 10/01/11.)

Just to refresh my memory, when our guys have more runs than the other guys is that what's called "a lead"?
I've heard other teams' fans talk about it, but it's been so long that I'm having trouble remembering.

Y'know it'd be cathartic to knock this club out of the playoffs. They're not any good anyhow.

Sweeping the Braves this weekend and then playing like shit against the Cards next week could go a long way towards that.

real catharsis is winning out. including Sweeping the stupid Phillies away from the 'better than '86' thing. also, starting their death spiral for the first round.

Cappy puts two rabbits on base to start the bottom of the 5th then K's all the boppers to keep them from scoring.
(he was helped by the fact that one of the burners missed 1st base, but that's a minor issue and one I would have sworn would be made by the team in black and gray instead)

So I guess Julio Teheran joins Miguel Cairo, current Detroit 2B Jose Santiago, along with retired players like Jose Lima, and Claudell Washington in a fairly small ML club.

Alex Trebek would ask you to be a little more specific before he'd give you credit for a correct response.

Who are ballplayers who have the same names as cities, Alex?

Kelly Paris too.

Has there ever been a ballplayer named "Wellington"? I figure there's got to be one of those out there.

Real catharsis would actually be losing so much, the rage and sadness and nausea comes pouring out in waves; in the Greek model, you don't purge badfeeling with goodfeeling, but with an EXCESS of badfeeling (watching a sad movie to "cry out" your sadness is cathartic; watching the five funniest movies of all time to do so isn't).

But yeah, it would feel good to do that thing you said. (Or, alternatively, to beat the Braves tomorrow while the Phils-- with a Magic Number o' 1-- lose in embarrassing fashion. #AwkwardClinch)
