Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 It's unofficial as of yet, and I think they're due to join the team tomorrow, but I'm certain it's just a matter of a paper transaction. Probably adding Ike Davis to the 60-Day.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Mejia isn't listed on the Mets' website as 60-day DL but he must also be there as well.

Someone told me that to do so would activate major league service time, something the Mets probably don't want to do. As it is they didn't have to waste an option year on him this year since he didn't play.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 You're not sure on what? That he's on the disabled list? Forgive me for not putting much faith in "someone" who "told you" this.Placing Mejia on the disabled list does not accumulate major league service time as he was not placed on the major league disabled list.As to the question regarding his option years, he will be eligible for a fourth option year based on the fact that he will not have accumulated five full seasons of professional service before his three option years are up. See here: http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=655&Itemid=75correct on the option year.major league DL is different than the minor league one. I don't know the differences and semantics, but it certainly may be that you can't remove someone from the 40 man while they're in the minors. after all, how would you tell the difference between rehab games and actually active games? You could leave them on the 60day indefinitely.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Of course you can remove someone from the 40-man roster when they are on optional assignment in the minors. Doing so, however, is going to open a player up to being lost, whether via a waiver claim or the Rule V draft. That's not the point, however. If Mejia is on the 60-day DL -- even the minor league 60 day DL -- he would not "count" against the 40-man limit, the same way that Murphy doesn't "count" against the 40-man limit.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Minor League Baseball uses a 7-day disabled list for all injuries. Players who are on the 40-man roster but get hurt in the minor leagues are placed on the minor league DL, but not on the major league DL. One problem this poses is that a player who is injured in the minors and who would be placed on the major league 60-day DL cannot be placed on the 60-day, meaning the 40-man roster spot is not freed up.from Wikipedia.sounds like Niese might be done for the year though.
