Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Headed across state to see the Mets play the Tigers -- a rare opportunity for me to see the team in person! Anybody else going to be at any of the games?

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Where should we look for your hollerin' Metly patoot, should the cameras pursue an errant foul ball hit in your direction?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Wear a uniform of a semi-obscure Met from 30 years ago. and so ensure you get a shoutout from Howie.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Or, if you're feeling a little more like stretching the waistband, Lolich.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 If you're looking for a Met (a) from 30 ish years ago, ( with Le Tigre connections, and © that would raise Howie's eyebrows, there's no better choice than Richie Hebner.

I don't know what I'll wear on Wednesday but most of my Mets-wear is not really obscure. Hard to say if that's a good thing or not.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Michigan has the Mercury Mets jersey coming out, right?

That's an option. Never worn the Mercury Mets jersey to a game before, and post-weight-loss it's actually nice and baggy. Tiger fans won't know what the hell it is. Actually, in the 20 years I've been going Tigers games, I've can't recall ever once getting called out for wearing the other team's gear -- and I almost always wear the other team's gear. About the closest I come to wearing Tiger stuff is my Pedro Martinez batting practice jersey from the 2005 All-Star Game, which the Tigers hosted.I do have some kind of obscure Mets stuff Howie might call out. I've got a Barry Lyons batting practice pull-over from the early 1990s -- it's got the big NY on the left breast. But it might be a little hot for that, and it really doesn't look good with shorts.I've got a game-used Mel Rjoas road batting jersey. It's pretty cool -- but I might get called out by Mets fans for wearing that one.I've got a spring training worn Rick Trlicek practice jersey. same era as the Rojas. This is the home version. Might be too obscure. Then I have two home Eddie Murray non-game-worn jerseys, one with the racing stripes and buttons, the other with the tail of shame. Also have the Bonilla road from the trail of shame years, too. Also not game worn. The black Ventura (not game-worn) road is probably not obscure enough, nor is the black non-game-worn home Santana from '08.The Mitchell and Ness 1969 flannel Seaver (which you see in the avatar) I reserve for only the most special occasions. What do you guys think?I'm going Tuesday night -- sorry Gwreck! That would have been fun! I'm behind the Mets dugout -- but 30 rows back. Bought tix from Stub Hub for the first time. Seemed to work OK.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I like the concept of a CPF tradition of trying to catch Howie's attention on the road with obscure Mets jerseys
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 It is not in the best shape but I fit in my game worn Al Luplow Mets Road Jersey I can wear to Philadelphia..

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Sports Collectors Digest has a few pages in the back of Old Timers that can be contacted to sign things, sell things. They are happy to get the money. Most will attend a function within travel limits, like your birthday or whatever for about $200.I wanted to get a 1960's MFY, somebody like Jake Gibbs, to come and make him mow the lawn and such.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 The Luplow jersey isn't a name-on-backer, is it?
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I will be making my annual Michigan trip this weekend spending time in Douglas and Warren Dunes State Park. But that will be on the opposite side of the state and after the Mets are already back in NYC.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 My dad, son and I will be at one of the Dodger games and one of the Giant games in Cali next week.Too bad my quest for that '78-'79 Doug Flynn jersey was a failure.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 You can always honor Dougie with the classick Wonderful Woody shirt.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Why are the Mets playing the Tigers this year (other than to make MGIM happy--which is a pretty good reason)? The Mets played the Tigers last year. The Mets are not playing any other team from the AL Central. Instead, the Mets are playing teams from the AL West except for the Mariners. I'm trying to find logic in an illogical system. Also, from Wikipedia: "The New York Mets have never hosted the Chicago White Sox. The 2 teams have only played once in Chicago in 2002."Yearly Summary1997: NYM won 0, DET won 3.2004: NYM won 3, DET won 0.2007: NYM won 1, DET won 2.2010: NYM won 2, DET won 1.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 In a system with a 16-team league playing a 14-team league, where one divison has six teams and one has four, logic will always fail.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Trivia: Who is the only Mets pitcher to ever get a win against the Chicago White Sox?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I remember the starting pitchers and I remember the Mets won only 1 of the 3 games but I can't remember which of the three got the win. Was it Jeff D'Amico?

But I don;t remember who won it. There was a HR by... Burnitz I think and a power outage in the first inning.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I was there too. The power outage happened when Robbie Alomar was in the box I think, and then he went on to hit the home run.
