Beverly’s Jack Leathersich said yesterday he plans to forego a final year of eligibility with the UMass-Lowell baseball team after the hard-throwing junior left-hander was selected by the New York Mets in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft. Leathersich is the highest UML player ever selected. “Oh my God. It’s unbelievable,’’ said the 6-foot Leathersich. “I talked to the area scout (Art Pontarelli) about 10 minutes before they called. I can’t put it into words. I have one year left (at UML) but I’m definitely going to sign.’’ Leathersich, who turns 21 on July 14, is coming off a 7-3 season with 126 strikeouts in 89 innings with only 26 walks. “He’s a tremendous player. He came in as a 160-pound kid who threw 84 mph and he left as a 200-pounder who is throwing 95 mph,’’ said UMass-Lowell coach Ken Harring. “He’s won a lot of big games for us. I think he can climb the levels pretty quickly. . . . He still has a lot of things to work on but I think he can be a really good pitcher.’’

I think he had two baserunners yesterday, but they weren't hard hit balls or anything. one was a walk. He looked real good.

That's not out of focus, that's motion blur because your shutter speed was too slow - his glove is much sharper because there isn't as much movement there....
