soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 A little late to this party but that's insane - 1925 was the last time someone had at least 26 in a season? And Jose's on pace for 28-29? Wowzers.Pssst, hey Jose - you know where the best park to hit triples is right? How about re-upping for a few years? You give us a discount, you get a chance to be known as the 'Triple King'? How about that? Pretty cool nickname riiiiight?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 So basically he's on pace to wind up with the 2nd most triples in 'modern baseball' history; aka, the most in just under a century.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Not much movement on the DOUBLES list since we last checked in a few weeks ago. (That's largely because Jose keeps insisting on taking that third base.)DOUBLES1. David Wright 2662. Ed Kranepool 2253. Howard Johnson 2144. Edgardo Alfonzo 2125. Jos Reyes 2116. Carlos Beltran 1997. Mike Piazza 1938. Darryl Strawberry 1879. Cleon Jones 18210. Mookie Wilson 170Also, tomorrow night, Jose Reyes is due to become the tenth Mets player to appear in 1,000 games. He won't pass anyone else this year, unless David Wright fails to come back as expected. If Jose plays every game the rest of the season, hell finish just a few games shy of Edgardo Alfonzo. But, if he comes back in 2012, he'll be poised (with a healthy season) to pass Fonzie, Darryl, Mookie, Hojo, and Cleon.GAMES1. Ed Kranepool 18532. Bud Harrelson 13223. Jerry Grote 12354. MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Where does Jose rank in career defensive stats - putouts, assists total chances and errors for Met shortstops? I'm guessing his comp would be Bud Harrelson.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I don't have that info handy, but I can give you games played at shortstop. (Remember, Jose was a secondbaseman for a little while.)1. Bud Harrelson 12812. Jos Reyes 9513. Rey Ordez 9074. Kevin Elster 5245. Rafael Santana 4786. Frank Taveras 3727. Roy McMillan 3358. Howard Johnson 2639. Jos Vizcaino 23610. Ron Gardenhire 230Jose is a little bit ahead of Rey Ordonez, but still significantly behind Bud Harrelson.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I remember Bud having great range. He was probably the best I ever saw going back on pop flies down the left field line, taking "doubles" away from opposing hitters. But he had more strikeout pitchers on the staff, so the other numbers, especially total chances, might be very close. (just guessing)Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Harrelson fielding totals as a SS11,510 Innings played: 2,387 Put-outs3,975 Assists203 ErrorsReyes:8,385 Innings Played1,299 Put-outs2,592 Assists105 ErrorsAbout 750 or so of those Harrelson innings were NOT as a NYM but, with even a full season consisting of about 1,400 innings, Reyes is still a ways away from matching Bud for longevity. And if you're really looking for a comparison you'd want to account for Reyes playing in a more offense-oriented era but at the same time in a higher strike-out (fewer balls-in-play) era.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 David Wright finally broke that months-long tie with Darryl Strawberry on the runs scored list:1. Jos Reyes 7032. David Wright 6643. Darryl Strawberry 662And... Jose Reyes recently became the first Met to score 700 runs!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Ike Davis, who hasn't played in over two months, is still second on the team in home runs.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Jose Reyes now has 99 triples, which ties him with Jimmy Rollins for 3rd on the Active list. Next up (yeah, like Rollins is gonna keep pace?) is Johnny Damon with 104, which might also be doable this year. Crawford has 109.

Jose just tied Larry Bowa (among others) for 161st place in the career triples race.
