There's also a mutual option for 2021 worth up to $20 million with a $4 million buyout.

I think this makes it all but official that they aren't signing Fielder long-term, which could mean that they are going for broke this year. It's too bad they sold what was left of their farm for Greinke because I'm betting they could use a Reyes rental this season.

Calculated gamble that it's cheaper now to lock up those extra 5 years than it will be come the end of the 2015 season. Note that I don't think it's a good gamble.
