This series kicks off 2nd on Wed afternoon.
The stands will be drowning in seas of red

Full Sked - all games on TBS:
Wed - @ Phil - 5:07 PM
Fri - @ Phil - 6:07 PM
Sun - @ Cin - TBA
* Mon - @ Cin - TBA
* Wed - @ Phil TBA

Game 1 = Edison Volquez vs Roy Halladay

I hate the built-in extra day off. Id like to see the first round played with either one or even zero days off, but while two is acceptable three is horrid. Eight days to play five games changes the nature of how the game is played all year.
In this case the NL gets one series with the extra day off and Philly, having the best record, got first choice if they wanted it or not. Naturally they took it and will only have to use 3 pitchers even if it goes the whole 5 games.

- Philly won 5 of 7 this season, taking 2 of 3 in late June in Cincy and then four straight a week later at home.

You're right: baseball is played on every Friday and Saturday all season long until the first round of the playoffs when one league has Friday off and the other has Saturday off. And, as you said, the benefit of a deeper rotation is lost.

I despise all these extra days. There is too many off days, especially between series. 19 games max, and it takes 29 days? You know, if they added another wildcard quick series but cut out the days off the playoffs would be over quicker, there'd be more games to watch more often, and we wouldn't even notice.

It's not even which days of the week the off days fall on, it's just that there's too many of them.

The main culprit is, of course, TV. To hold four separate series without tweaking them the way they do would cause all four to be played on the same day at least once and MLB certainly doesn't want games overlapping each other to further dilute the viewership nor do the networks who pay all that money for the exclusivity factor.
The other thing is that once they went to the Wild Card system there became the perceived need to not only give the higher ranked team home field advantage (as opposed to the previous random system) but also to never have the lower team have the advantage for even a moment during the series. That in turn led to one extra travel day in a five game series as they moved to a 2-2-1 split from the previous 2-3

At least they've yanked the extra day out of the LCS series this year and next season they've changed the starting and ending days of the season in order to begin the playoffs on a (in their opinion) more favorable time in the week.

Is "Put 'Em in a Body Bag" Johnny Cueto scheduled to pitch for the Redlegs? That might be fun with a Philly crowd.

With 2 outs, Volquez walks Carlos Ruiz on 4 pitches and it's all downhill from there. 4-0 bad guys already.

Its not the Mets so I'll go ahead and say it.

If Halladay pitches a no-hitter in his first post season appearance I am gonna flip my lid.

Obviously the light never came on for Edison Volquez today.

Still 4-0 thru five.
No-hitter for Halladay tho no perfecto (1 walk).

No-hitter through six.
Wow.
I'm rootin for the Phils but I don't know if I wanna see a no-no.
I did just tell a Phils fan friend yesterday that it would be kool if that happened.
Now I dunno. It would be some historical baseball.
He can't keep this up. He just can't.

He'll give it up now in the 7th, after having to run out that grounder to end the inning.
Isn't that the way it should go?
And it'll be a HR.

I'm on record.

The Amazin' Avenue blog just tweeted:
I have no love lost for the Phillies but I'm sure as hell rooting for Halladay here.

Why would any Mets fan want anything good to happen to the Phillies or see their fans happy? Do you think that Phillies fans would be rooting for a Met pitcher in the same situation? I know that we don't have to lower ourselves to their level, and that we can appreciate greatness, history and artistry, but F the Phillies.

I'm a Met fan first and a baseball fan second.
As a fan of the game how can you not want to see something like this happen?

Who gives a flying fuck about the Phils fans. I know I don't.
They can hurl all over each other for all I care.

This is post season baseball and this is exciting, no matter what team is doing it.
Don't be petty.

Wowzers.

I still say no way can he do it.
He gives it up in the 9th.

^What a strange way to root,lol.

What Halladay is doing here is special, I'm rooting for the no-hitter, certainly not rooting against it anyway.

I guess I have mixed feelings cause at this point I wanna see him do it ,see a no-no in post play, and in my head I think no way can he do this.
Very strange perspective.

I don't think I'm being petty. I don't want anything good to happen to the Phillies. I hope Halladay emplodes in the 9th and the Reds win.

Imagine if this was the Mets. Id be sitting on all the bricks I'd be shitting.
I'm kinda glad it don't REALLY matter to me.

It might even be enough to push Randy Moss off the lead story on SportsCenter .... Nahhh.

Just for kicks I flicked over to the 6PM SC during breaks in the early part of the game and, with one playoff game already in the books and one more in progress, they devoted the full first 15 minutes of the show to the Randy Moss trade: the specifics of the deal, Moss's reaction, Brady's reaction, Farve's reaction, Balicheck's reaction, the reactions of ESPN's talking heads to the previous reactions, analysis of the upcoming schedule, etc.

Oh so espn didn't lead with the story about one of their producers giving himself up today to the cops.....he was caught masturbating at a neighbors window while she undressed.
