G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Frenchy up with the bases loaded and one out versus the Great Rivera. Score tied, bottom of the ninth and, in the words of Pearl Bailey, HE HIT HIM! Jeff takes one for his new team (and the brighter side of humanity), right on the Texas flag patch, and the Rangers complete their come-from-behind victory over the MFYs, 7-6.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I heard that Rhianna/Eminem song on the radio last night that Frenchy was using as his at-bat music in his final Metly week. What a passive-aggressive type tune to play when you're supposedly trying to psyche yourself up to do something big for your team.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I looked quick nd thought it read Rhianna/Enema
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Another 1AM finish - although this one was at least partly due to a rain delay. Still took them 4:16 of playing time to get through a 9-inning game.At least the Frenchy HBP was on the first pitch too with no drama involved. He was in the game after PH-ing earlier and wound up with a 1B, SacFly, and then finally the game-winning HBP.Poor Mariano. Coming off working two innings the night before he just didn't have it.So after the Yanx scored 3 in the 8th to take a 6-5 lead his line read: BB, 1B, 2B, IW, Pop-up, HBPAnd the Rays romped earlier so the Yanx lead is down to 1/2 game.

I could see them having a very lackluster September.

It's more like the sort of music to which you might cut yourself if you were a fifteen-year-old, and you were doing so expressly to get attention-- misery as fashionable pose.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Nice going Jeff, just promise me you won't look at strike three against Mo in the playoffs.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 You're really worried he'll watch strike three?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Good memories of Cliff Lee to be had from today as well. Got home from today's uberdowner of a Mets game (save for the slew of friendly faces) in time for the ninth inning on YEECH. Michael Kay presided over a state funeral. Then, on MLB Network, they played the Rangers' feed of the final out. You'd think "Deep in the Heart of Texas" had gained a new verse.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 See, that's funny, because he seemed to be doing his damnedest to keep them away from said "games."French Twist wrote:"Between Omar, Jerry and Jeff, they gave me the opportunity to come over here and play and I can't thank them enough," said Francoeur, who had a key run-scoring double in Game 1. "I'm having a blast over here."I always wanted to know what it was like to play meaningful baseball in New York and I'm going to have the opportunity."

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 At least he doesn't pee on his hands.

I generally think the best approach to facing Rivera is to not overthink the situation and just swing, which (in theory) should suit Francoeur well.
Guest 86-Dreamer Guests Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Was at charity event last night where a Jeff Francoeur signed ball was the only silent auction item without any bids. Until I scooped it up at the last minute for the minimum bid. That value is going to skyrocket tonight after he drives in the winning run to bury the MFYs.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 if that minimum bid was higher than the cost of a baseball, i'd say you got rooked.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 David Wright on Francoeur's post-season per Rubin"He didn't play all that much , but he was in every camera shot"

Gold.Wildean swipes at bitchy ex-teammates, forthright assessments of an unpopular stadium... Mother of mercy! Is this the end of Robot-Wright?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Can't Stop the Bleeding can't stop throwing Jeff under the bushttp://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/jeff-francoeur-still-full-of-shit-for-a-livingJeff Francoeur : Still Full Of Shit For A LivingPosted in Baseball at 7:01 pm by GCYoure not even past the first sentence of Terez A. Paylors K.C. Star item welcoming Jeff Francoeur to the Royals when the former Braves/Mets/Rangers RFs smile is mentioned prominently. Its a winning smile, too, just so long as your definition of winning has nothing to do with winning baseball games (or getting on base very often). Perez seems willing to give Francoeur the benefit of the doubt when he claims he turned down other suitors in favor of the Royals GM Dayton Moore because he fancies himself a role model.I dont look at this as a one-year thing, and I told Dayton that today, said Francoeur, a 26-year-old outfielder who signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract last week. I dont want to have a great year, say see ya and go play somewhere else.I want to be here when it turns around. When I was 21 years old, I had mentors like John Smoltz and Chipper Jones, guys that showed me how to do it, said Francoeur, who understands the expectations that come with being a big-time prospect. Here, youve got a lot of 21- or 22-year-old guys who are ready to come up and be stars for years. Hopefully I can help them out.Royals Reviews Will McDonald tried listening to the above comments and concludes that Moore, is not only bad an evaluating baseball players, hes bad at identifying people more generally.Francoeurs career has been an abject failure. He, without qualification, has not lived up to expectations. He has not been a winner. He has not handled failure well. He has not handled benchings well. What has he done well? If anything, hes pretty clearly a bad example for young players. His example says precisely this, live off the hype as long as you can, never change, and wait for an old scout to sign you years later. The Paylor puff piece http://www.kansascity.com/2010/12/13/2518224/francoeur-is-full-of-hope-as-he.html
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Francoeur's a great role model, especially for guys like me: thanks to Francoeur, I can preserve my childhood fantasy of playing every single game for the New York Mets at RF even though I'd be the worst major leaguer at my position.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 What does it say to KC fans that Moore the GM thinks Francoeur is exactly what the club needs?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Well, exactly what the club needs is outside the budget. More likely, for one year at $2.5 million, he hopees that Francoeurr can hold down a job until a younger better guy takes it from him, and he's a recognizeable big league guy until then.I guess he's Gus Bell to Moore's George Weiss. It must be a killer organization to run. If the GM of 27 or 28 other franchises thinks he has a hope of finding hiis big league form, he's offered a minor league deal. But Pittsburgh and KC need guys like him just to fill out a roster. KC's always got an outfielder on the rocks on their team, don't they?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 metirish wrote:What does it say to KC fans that Moore the GM thinks Francoeur is exactly what the club needs? The way Posnanski* put it, it's consistent with his stated aims of running a team of hardworking, solid-personality, "good teammate" players... in the continued interim between the past and a rapidly-developing, minor-league-talent-fueled future (and with the understanding that 2011 is likely another year in the Royals' championship interregnum). To my mind, he's more accurate when he calls it a "hit on 20 and hope for an ace" kind of move.*Happy JoePos Day, everybody!
