soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 For 2010 NL Rookie of The Year.I'm sorry if this topic has been recently visited and I've missed it. Who are the other candidates besides these guys?I think he stacks up.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 If the season ended today, I don't think he'd be the favorite, but he does have another two months to (hopefully) strengthen his case.It also could go to a pitcher. Stephen Strasburg is on the DL at the present time, and he got a late start to his season, so it's hard to say how much of a factor he'll be. But he's certainly gotten attention, and that's a big part of the battle.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Cards LHP Jaime Garcia - the one who faced us Wednesday night and settled down after a rocky 1st inning - needs some attention here:9-4 in 20 starts. 2.33 ERA; 103 hits in 116 IP; 94 K, 46 BB, 1.284 WHIP
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I like the chart, but would like to see plate appearances listed for the offensive players.Ike has all but locked up a spot on the Topps All-Rookie team, and that's what's important.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Gammons and the other ESPN hacks annointed Heyward ROY back in the first week of spring training. No need to even count votes.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Can't really take credit for the chart - I just mashed them together from espn.com.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Rookie of the Year races can be annoying, because unlike other major awards, the voters don't seem to be too worried about comparing more-partial seasons to more-complete ones without making adjustments.A couple of others.[table:3cme2zds][tr:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]PLAYER[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]TEAM[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]AB[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]R[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]H[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]2B[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]3B[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]HR[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]RBI[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]SB[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]CS[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]BB[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]SO[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]BA[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]OBP[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]SLG[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]OPS[/td:3cme2zds][/tr:3cme2zds][tr:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]Gaby Sanchez[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]FLA[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]368[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]48[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]108[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]24[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]2[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]11[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]46[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]4[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]0[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]36[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]62[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].293[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].359[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].459[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].818[/td:3cme2zds][/tr:3cme2zds][tr:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]Ian Desmond[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]WSH[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]309[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]36[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]79[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]16[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]3[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]7[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]43[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]9[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]3[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]15[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]66[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].256[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].294[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].395[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].689[/td:3cme2zds][/tr:3cme2zds][tr:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]Alcides Escobar[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]MIL[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]334[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]41[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]84[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]10[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]7[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]2[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]27[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]8[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]4[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]24[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds]41[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].251[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].302[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].341[/td:3cme2zds][td:3cme2zds].643[/td:3cme2zds][/tr:3cme2zds][/table:3cme2zds]
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 What's up with the schnozzes on the Met rooks?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Niese's big advantage that I can see is his wonderful date of birth. I also like that he was born in a city that sounds like it could be in Peru.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Posey's maybe my favorite non-Met of 'em (although Heyward and Strasburg have force-of-nature buzz about them). I think either he or Garcia takes it eventually.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Gary likes to mention Niese's brithdate every other game or so.Josh Thole was born the very next day.
