My present feelings towards Rodriguez notwithstanding, the Mets found a way to win in spite of him, and that's a good thing.[/quote:xqh3cadl]

Same on Manuel. still have a chance to salvage road trip at Ian Kennedy's expense.

Wacky and wild 9th.
Thought this would be a wacky and wild IGT too.
And I expected Manual to get thrown out on the dribbler in front of the plate,
that clearly, from every perspective, never came near the batter.
But he didn't. Not that It would have served any good purpose, I suppose.
I got thrown out of my buddies house after that call.

Ike is da man!
Hope Wrights knee is okay.
That was 1) a horrible way to play that ball 2) painful.
I played third most of my years playing ball, and you never play a shot like that to the side.
He let it eat him up.
K-Rod?
I'm speechless.
The umps?
You see the way they had to walk thru the stands after the game, and the way the fans were booin them,
and the way that idiot home plate ump was stopping to respond to them? I really wasn't convinced he was an idiot til I saw him do that.

Another great starting performance wasted, but not wasted. We won.
Good game. We needed it bad.

Game was a total mess from the 9th inning on. I was sure that Ishikawa was safe at home but he way Cuzzi was calling things it was as if he was giving a make-up call.

It seems to me that he's not usuly mentioned with the Angel Hernandez-CB Bucknor-Joe West troika but perhaps he should. In addition to the terrible calls, he twice provoked confrontations with the Mets, first early in the game with Razor Shines re: whether a Giants player's foot was outside the batter's box, and then again in the 9th with Francisco.

Not pinch-hitting for Blanco in the 8th was the beginning of the shitshow, methinks. Just an odd non-move there... especially from Manuel, who is more splits-obsessed than a gymnastics coach, and, hell, has pinch-hit dudes just to bunt... on multiple occasions... this season alone. I mean, if you're going to do that all the time... do that when it could actually be of benefit.

To top it all, I had to listen to most of it via Wayne and a shaky Ed Coleman. Wayne spent at least as much time discussing umpires*, their tendencies, and the lack of appreciation they're shown as he did Jonathan Sanchez, or Buster Posey; if Ed Montague ever has a boiled bunny show up at his doorstep, I know where I'm looking first.

This doesn't feel like a win. And of course Wright gets hurt, to boot. Who's the backup at third at the moment-- Cora?

*Well before the ninth.

I have little confidence in Manuel anyway but in a game like this that went pear shaped in a hurry there wasn't much for him to do, maybe not having time to think is the trick...can Cuzzi get kicked back to the minors?, he seems like an ump that is often wrong, Blanco nailed him to the cross after the game.

grasping at straws here, but is there a chance Blanco swiped his fingers on the way down and actually got him? nah, probably not.

It was a lot closer on replay than it looked game-speed though.

Still, as much of a 'gift' as it was, the whole inning develops differently and maybe never gets that far.

Blanco

"He was safe all the way," Blanco said, shrugging and grinning. "Good for us.

Players and coaches from both benches had been complaining about Cuzzi's work throughout the game, and, by the ninth, the umpire appeared exasperated. He claimed he was yelling at the Mets' bench, not Rodriguez.

Blanco disagreed, and called for the league to discipline Cuzzi. Blanco continued with his scathing review of the umpire, who gained notoriety last year for calling a would-be double by Joe Mauer as a foul ball in the playoffs at Yankee Stadium.

"I hope somebody sees that and punishes him," the catcher said. "That's one thing that should not happen in a baseball game. It doesn't matter how mad you are, it should not happen, especially from them. I hope somebody was watching that."

"Bad calls all day," Blanco said. "He missed a lot of pitches. I thought he said stuff to Frankie. Then he told Jerry that he wasn't talking to him, he wasn't talking to our dugout. A lot of weird things happened that inning."

I credit Blanco will calling Cuzzi out, particularly in game. Even though ultimately it probably would've been better for Frankie to get tossed, at least Blanco seemed to realize he should figuratively step between the two.

Maybe next he can call Jerry out.

I imagine Johan's first in line for this. With the impending demotion of one of the catchers I'd probably tread lightly if i were Blanco.

"My arm felt fine. I have no idea why they pulled me and put Abraham Lincoln in there. Jerry's the boss. You'll have to ask him."

I wonder if Goggles gets pissed-off postgame voicemails from Hugo Chavez when he blows one for Johan.
