Last night Darrell had two hits and scored a run before being thrown out of the game during a bizarre at-bat. He was seemingly hit by a pitch but the ump said he wasn't. An argument ensued, and finally the at-bat resumed. Then he was drilled by a pitch, and must have said something choice to the umpire when he tossed his bat because he was immediately ejected from the game.

.289 .331 .405//.736

7 homers, 16 steals, 22-89 BB-K in 395 AB.

Was Rule 5 eligible last year, would expect more of the same.

Almost hitting too good to be the 1,000th Met.

BB rate up (9.7%), K rate down (18.4%) than in recent stops at AA, but still higher than you'd want from a guy who's not gonna hit a million home runs.

That said it is an improvement from 5.1/20.7 last year, and a better K rate historically than Kirk in the minors.

Plus we know that DePodesta really likes him, and I think that matters a little.

Oh wow. Good news!

In other news, Sean Ratliff, once Ceciliani's peer and rival as they took a parallel course of ascension through the system, before being forced to retire due to a serious eye injury, has rejoined the organization as the hitting coach for the Kingsport Mets.

That's Seannie, second from right. Hasn't been out of baseball very long, but is already padding his belly like a coach. Good show.

Much has been made of impatiently waiting for Alderson products to make the majors, but he's the very first Met to reach the majors from 2009's draft class — the last under Omar Minaya. Sixth-round pick David Buchanan didn't sign, but eventually reached the majors as a Phillie, logging 25 games over the last two years.

Still, in the system from that draft:
[list:3vw8gr3h][*:3vw8gr3h]Steven Matz, sp, round two, now at AAA[/*:m:3vw8gr3h]
[*:3vw8gr3h]Darin Gorski, sp, round seven, now at AAA[/*:m:3vw8gr3h]
[*:3vw8gr3h]Jeff Glenn, c, round nine, now at A+[/*:m:3vw8gr3h]
[*:3vw8gr3h]Neifi Zapata, c/1b, round 19, now at AAA[/*:m:3vw8gr3h]
[*:3vw8gr3h]John Church, rp, round 23, now at AAA[/*:m:3vw8gr3h][/list:u:3vw8gr3h]

Taylor Whitenton (round 39) left pro ball after 2012, but the Mets brought him back this year, but he hasn't been pitching.

Darrell's brother Devin was drafted, but has apparently opted out of pro ball. Somebody has to take the clients hunting. Wonder if he has another brother named Darrell.

Good job nursing this guy through five years in the bushies.

Yeah they risked his Rule 5ing twice and din't give up despite a lot of whiffing and more injuries than you'd like to see from a guy. Only a few times has he performed as well as they thought he could but now is one of those times.

Ceciliani may be Cecili-goney, as he's been DFA'd to make room for that roster-hog Yoenis Cespedes. Let's see if he survives his designation as well as he survived his two runs through the Rule 5 crucible.
