Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I'm OK with that. Sounds a bit awkward, a bit overdue. Not bad.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 No disrespect to Bill Shea, but I'd like to think that the bridge is named after the stadium.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I'm more than fine with it.A symbolic - if not actual - bridge from the old stadium to the new gets named for the first place and franchise founder while it helps to reverse the feeling that the Wilpons wanted to bury any hint that there even was a park before this one. Nice little plaque with a representation of Shea next to it also.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 It feels right, even if it doesn't sound right.I lobby for the centerfield area to be named "La Piazza," though.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Bill Shea Bridge rolls of the tongue sounding better than Shea Bridge.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 'Shea Bridge' does sound a bit like some young actor who starts out getting all the teen heart-throb roles and is the star of the gossip pages before his career eventually stalls when he grows out of his "cuteness". Years later he will time his attempted comeback with an announcement - to the surprise of absolutely no one - that he's a proud gay American and that the hot starlets he was seen with all those years ago were just a concoction of studios to bolster his box-office image, but now he's glad to no longer be living a lie.His comeback goes nowhere.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Attempting a picture for those of you that could not be there yesterday.
