I am 1-0 and I'm carrying this streak forward. Everybody on my back.

Five expected big leaguers today in the lineup. Maybe six if you count Misch. Two and a half expected regulars.

  1. Pagan, CF
  2. Cora, 2B
  3. Murphy, Dn, 1B
  4. Tatis, 3B
  5. Martinez, F, LF
  6. Barajas, C
  7. Catalanotto, DH
  8. Adams, R, SS
  9. Nieuwenhuis, RF
  1. Cabrera, Me, CF
  2. Prado, 2B
  3. Jones, C, 3B
  4. Glaus, 1B
  5. Heyward, RF
  6. Escobar, Y, SS
  7. Diaz, M, LF
  8. Ross, D, C
  9. Clevlen, DH

i'd like to see Catalanotto beat out Andy Hernandez for 25th guy on the roster. he's a LHed "professional hitter" with multi-position experience. Hernandez gives you very little besides a good glove at 2b, and an adequate glove at SS.

It's certainly a possiblity. It puts more pressure on Cora and Tatis as backup infielders, but maybe Catalanotto can still fake it at second.

My expectation is that they carry two more-or-less legit middle-infield backups. That's certainly not definite, but Hernandez is out of options, so any hitter who knocks him aside probably has to make a strong case for himself with bat. If somebody does, Catalanotto may be the compromise between offensive aptitiude and defensive versatility that Mike Jacobs can never be.

I agree with VBic , and not to knock Cora but he needs to handle those backup duties , with Tatis as suggested.

The game is available on mlb.com but it's the Braves broadcast. Fortunately, it's not the usual idiots the Braves employ. Unfortunately, it's new idiots. Did you know that Bobby Cox has a six-pack? It's true--the Bobby Cox six pack of tickets for his farewell season. Also: Southern homes are especially susceptible to termites.

I'm curious to see what Hessman has to offer there, actually-- he hits lefties and righties and takes walks... and has put up a .476 slugging percentage/13 HRs in 185 pinch-hit/part-time ABs. If it comes down to Jacobs or him, he's kind of a no-brainer, handedness-- or defense-- be damned.

I actually knew that last one.

I also know that we're scoreless through three, out-hitting the Braves 3-1, with Adams, Martinez, and Cora getting the knocks. Pencil in Russ Adams as the first spring sensation likely to be forgotten within a week.

Misch had his three scoreless with one hit and two walks --- to Prado and Heyward. Niesen takes over for the Mets.

Braves announcers tell me that Atlanta has "a lot of guys that look good getting off of the bus."

Barajas smokes a hit.

The Braves announcers have never heard of Frank Catalonotto.

Mets hold the lead after an RBI single by Angel Pagan.

Daniel Murphy leads off the sixth with a hard single through the 5-6 hole.

Mike Cervenak drives Murphy home to make it 2-0.

These guys say base knock a lot.

Oh, and Fartinez just tripled Crvenak home. Heh, heh.

Thole drives Fart home. Four-zip.

And Braves announcers: the media guide will tell you how to pronounce Thole.

More importantly, the guy has had a 13-year career.

And one just pronounced the new Met leftfielder's name as "jole-BERT."

Waitaminnit... is this Chip Caray calling the game? Because, if that's the case... QED. (Or rather, "Line Drive! Base Hit! Caught it Out There! Runner Tags! Throw to the Plate! On Target! Double Play!")

Sound like he's a bit rusty.

As a co-worker just reminded me, Frank Edgywin "Tug" McGraw.

Defensive struggles give the run back and we're tied again. Ike needs to see Mex again.

Three errata in three plays for the Metzkoviches.

That's like five errors this inning.

Sometimes, it's easy to see who the minor leaguers are. A 4-0 lead has turned to a 9-5 defecit. Bitter citrus.

Misch making an early case for #5. That's right, my cards are on the table for Pat.[/quote:2hep5zsk]
So, you're, er, standing pat?
